RE: pistols, ATRs and a few combat observations

<t> I was watching a you tube about the battle of Milne bay and the Aussies brought up a boyes ATR to deal with 2 Japanese tanks....and it did nothing. Given that Japanese tanks were more akin to armoured cars with tracks I'd say that their utility against anything on the eastern front would be ...

pistols, ATRs and a few combat observations

<t> I routinely watch battles with the detail level high and I noticed a few things which seem a bit off to me.<br/>
<br/>
(not off but good to see): Grenades now seem to work as opposed to the first version, though I never saw any rifle grenades in use.<br/>
<br/>
1. Pistols. I saw quite a few ...

RE: How do you read the bottlenecks overlay?

<t> Sorry the rail goes between the two cities (Celtris and Grenacon) in the south and then north only as far as the rail head. What goes towards the troops near Bismark is a sealed road from the rail head (baring a mountain pass) that extends to the end of the yellow section all the way from the ...

RE: How do you read the bottlenecks overlay?

<r> Ohkay, I have sorta kinda fixed some of my problems but I have a big issue with my inability to send replacements to my no longer starving infantry brigade that is poised to take the enemy city in the north.<br/>
<br/>
My problem seems to be a huge bottleneck between my two other cities. My ...

RE: Overwhelmed by minor regime less than 5 turns into the game

<t> Well I had 3 infantry brigades, 10 or so independent battalions (6 of which were attached to the 3 infantry brigades) and militia units of various sizes (approximately 6 regiments and 6 battalions). I had also fought a civil war, then played the civil war card (stupid on my part) during it which ...

RE: Overwhelmed by minor regime less than 5 turns into the game

<t> Just to comment:<br/>
<br/>
First game: I was at about turn 40-60 or so and was expanding when I ran into some slavers...well I had a good mix of units there and was sorta trying to block them off when all of a sudden they rapidly expanded in my direction without any war declaration taking out ...

RE: Romanians and Hungarians in first winter`

<t> I don't really know what the winter was like for the Romanians and Hungarians attached to Army Group south, in general the big hit was to AGC as it was over extended due to Typhoon. AGS was over extended but Rumstead managed to convince Hitler to allow a pull back (Hitler complained about this ...

RE: Why don't the Germans take many losses in combat?

<t> If you look at this you see what people don't want to accept. The russian's pay a cost for the 1:1 becomes 2:1 rule, they have a hardwired higher loss rate during an assault. You had 10:1 in men and guns and 233 tanks supporting an assault on a single, admittedly well entrenched division. In the ...

RE: Weapons not observed to be used

<t> While I am at it I noticed another problem. In our game is in August 41 and I was making fortified zones for my finnish units. They got a single rifle squad when formed, but that rifle squad is a 44 era rifle squad with panzerfaust. This blocks them getting additional troops. I presume at some ...

Weapons not observed to be used

<t> My friend and I were playing the Germans against the Soviet AI over Christmas using the latest official release patch of the game and based on watching several dozen combats at setting 5 the following weapons that should have been firing were not observed to fire in combat.<br/>

RE: Better casualty calculation.

<t> By "Artillery duel" I mean the first thing you see in every fight is the heavy artillery firing. They target random (except for armoured cars which have magnets installed to suck the rounds in on them) things on the other side. And this happens the first thing in every battle except for a hasty ...

RE: Better casualty calculation.

<t> rrbill it is hard for me to answer that. About the only thing I can say is that looking at CV and planning your attacks based on CVs can be: missleading to outright incorrect. CV does not include many devices which in a fight may make a huge difference. Also CV includes things like fortification ...

RE: Better casualty calculation.

<t> Also with regards to casaulties the game handles that well.<br/>
<br/>
Damage from artillery is semi-random...Armoured Cars on both sides draw the most of it...but once they stop firing 150mm rounds at ACs the rest of the time the fire is distributed randomly over the combat formations.<br ...

RE: Limited Soviet pre-scenario turn

<t> It should be possible to have the AI play the first turn both as the axis and the soviet and then start the game at turn 2 with the axis turn. This will I guess give the Axis player a starting condition that will be random enough to prevent gamey exploitive behaviour. It will also simulate the ...

RE: Flammpanzer II weird stats

<t> Yes the damage done in retreat is a major component of the losses you see if you don't watch the battle. It was why I always felt the 2:1 rule for the russian's was acceptable. The russian's suffer extreme losses in a battle during the fight itself, if they fail to win it can be murderous.<br ...

Can I just say that in WitP AE, for a while, artillery was "A WW1 Artillery General's Wet Dream." Please avoid a swing in this direction. I'm glad there is still interest in updating the combat engine of the game with the team.

RE: Flammpanzer II weird stats

<t> One other thing that may be worth looking into is the rockets (such as Katashukas or Nebelwerfers). I'm rather amazed how ineffective they are at inflicting casualties (it may well be they are inflicting significant disruption of sub-units and I don't see that). They fire astoundingly rarely and ...
