Here's 2 by Stephen Ambrose

Just read "Band of Brothers". Was quite enjoyable. It was amazing how many of the cast really resembled the charactors.
I enjoyed it so much I began reading "D-Day: The Climactic Battle of WWII".... another one by Ambrose. It too was very good.

So to gain experience, my units basically must be INVOLVED in the battle to some degree.
That makes sense.

<t>I'm running 98 and nothing else besides the normal windows background stuff.<br/>
It is version 7.0. I'll try the 7.1 patch.<br/>
Like I said. I had this problem before..... probley prior to the last time I formatted..... and fixed it very easily.<br/>

Should have been more specific

<t>Jim,<br/>
Thanks for the reply, but I should have worded my question differently.<br/>
What I meant about experience is "How do units gain experience"?<br/>
I know the old Steel Panthers used to award kills and points to the unit that finished off the victim, but I think this was changed in SPWAW ...

Experience for Mortars

<t>For starters, I'm just going to ask if there is a resource on how experience works in SPWAW?<br/>
I don't really expect an answer as everytime I've seen this question asked, it seems to turns into a big confusing debate, so I'm only asking for a link or previous thread.<br/>
Secondly, I well ...

<t>To be a little more specific, it crashes only whenever I try to start a save-game from the end of a WWII-Campaign battle. You know when you've finally whacked the enemy, and you go to the screen that shows you all the causalities and score? <br/>
If I save the game here, or at the next screen ...

Save Game Problems

I know there is an easy fix to this, but I can't remember how.
I'm trying to start a game from a save game file and it's crashing SPWAW.
What do I do?

Thanks

<r>Thanks for the feedback.<br/>
In the long campaings, the name remains changed (to protect the innocent perhaps. <E>:)</E> <E>:)</E> <br/>
I used renaming to some degree in the past, but this last long campaign I went ahead and took the time to rename all the units of my core force. To me, it has ...

Changing Unit Names

<t>I find myself changing the names of my units to make it easier to keep track of them during battles. Changing them from "A0>GE Rifle Squad" or "B1>PzkpFw-IVd" to something like "B0> Bravo 1st Sqd" or "F2>White III".<br/>
Most of the time this works well. But sometimes I just don't have enough ...

<r>Not to be too much off topic here, but I strongly recommend a FREE Scanner called AVG. It's cleaned virus on both mine and my wife's system that an updated version of Norton didn't touch. I learned about from an email list group that got infected. Basically the subscribers who did have AVG were ...

<t>Thanks for that explanation Bill. I thought it was a long process, but I didn't even think about the pictures of medals, music and sound bits. Heck, 300 text files alone is daunting. <br/>

Upgrading from 5.0

I have a friend who has SPWAW 5. He wants to upgrade to the latest and greatest. I have all the upgrade patches since 5.1 on disk.
My question is can we just apply patch 7.1 or do we need to upgrade with each and every patch?

Use of Motorcycle Units

<t>Since eveyone was so helpful with the Infantry gun question I had, I thought I'd ask about another unit I'm curious about.<br/>
The Motorcycle unit<br/>
How can I effectively use this one? When I've used them in the past, they don't seem to possess much firepower, so I don't attack with them. <br ...

Thanks

Thanks for all the tips. The last battle I fought (clearing Oleszyce) I tried to use them. Honestly I didn't find them (the guns) much help.
Am I right in assuming that these can't be used as indirect fire weapons?

Do you just drag them along in the attack? Postion them in the rear? In the first battle, I didn't find them of particular use. Of course, none of my heavy weapons were of any use in the river crossing.

Infantry Guns

<t>Just began the Lost Victories MC, and I noticed there are a few Infantry Guns attached with the core force.<br/>
My question is how do I effectively use these guns? From what I've read I get the impression they just fired at targets over open sites and not as an indirect fire weapon.<br/>
Am I ...
