RE: Odd torpedo issue and subs

I think combat ships are faster and more agile so that torbedos fail to hit them as good angles than slow merchant ships. They just bounce off wothout detonition.

We are dreaming of that, but I guess it needs different game. Try old Carrier Strike. Maybe some day we have them all together.

Usually bombers are too brave. Order Singapore as a target for bomber squadrons.

RE: walk through of Coral sea or Guadalcanal?

<t> And the challenge continues in Marianas. Pretty impossible to slay all Allied CV's. Surface task forces are the best bet to reduce them and kill amphibious fleets. Japanese carriers should try to avoid enemy carriers and strike undefended targets. <br/>

Lose Yamato? It's unsinkable! Nagato and Mutsu are the biggest ships, I have lost. And now I'm afraid of British cruisers in night battle.

All of the above sound not so much like tactics and strategy, but "crib notes" on how to take advantage of the failings of the AI. Usefull if you ONLY play the AI..., useless if you decide to take on a real opponant.

RE: So, how do you defend (as Japan)?

Good tactic is also put BB task forces near enemy bomber bases. They like to naval attack with heavy bombers. Occasional bomb hits only scratches your BB, but AA takes toll on bombers. These BB fleets also have guard job when AI tries some crazy landing without support.

RE: So, how do you defend (as Japan)?

<t> Better take Port Moresby early so that it would be easier. I used Lunga and PM as a main defence bases in my game against AI. Just kill the US carriers as soon as they arrive. AI will form single carrier raiding forces which makes it quite easy. In my game I didn't lose even a single CVE and ...

I have put 12 knot tankers to carry oil because they are easier targets to submarine. Doesn't burn like a torch when hit.

RE: Better formation?

<t> I like to put fast carriers together: Hiryu, Soryu, Shokaku and Zuikaku. Rest of the carriers will form another slower fleet. I usually put one heavy cruiser to fleet in case on surprise surface battle. In my opinion BB is wasted in pure AA platform role in carrier force. BB can be in separate ...
