Re: Display failure after screen saver

Unfortunately, there is no practical remedy for this apart from disabling your screensaver, or perhaps upping its activation threshold to some high time value.

Toggle the 'u' hotkey. There is also a Toolbar button under Info for this purpose.

Brilliant! Why didn't we think of that earlier?

Re: Game Won't Start

Question: You have rebooted your system at least once during the process, yes?

I have a major system here where Windows Edge (the standard web browser) simply refused to start up, not until after a reboot.

Question 2: You are running a standard Windows PC with adequate resources (RAM, etc.), yes?

Re: Game Won't Start

Two other things maybe worth trying:

Try launching the game using Vietnam_no3D.exe. (The game might run more slowly in this mode.)
After fully uninstalling the game, try installing the game in a different location on a different disk . Believe it or not, we had a couple of cases over the years ...

Re: Game Won't Start

I hate to say it, but unless Matrix/Slitherine tech support can resolve this issue for you, I cannot. Very rarely, the game won't run on a system, that's all there is to it. Sorry that this is a non-starter.

Re: Game Won't Start

In both the earlier engine.log sample and the latest one, your game launch is indicating a freeze at roughly the same place, during some AIReset() initializations. Why this would happen is a total mystery.

I suggest:

Using the Windows Add or Remove Programs app, completely uninstall the game.

Re: Game Won't Start

Best if you run v1.30, which was released earlier this year. CSVN has gone through many version updates from 1.00 to 1.30. The release v1.00 is by now more than a year out of date.

Re: Game Won't Start

To begin with, you are running an outdated game install:

2023-09-10 14:52:31 vnengine.exe: [INFO ID 1] vnengine.exe 1.00 Jan 1 2022 20:40:06 startup

Please be sure to download and run the v1.30 updater.

Then retry launching the game.

If it fails again, follow the above procedure and post here ...

Re: Game Won't Start

Please do the following:
  • In Windows File Explorer, clean out the game's Logs folder.
  • Do as you describe, until the launch sequence freezes.
  • Do not exit the game or otherwise abort.
  • Zip up the contents of the Logs folder and post as an attachment here.
