I don't think it would have been possible because I've studied it in detail and decided it was a fantasy.

I've no particular axe to grid. If the evidence pointed to it being possible I'd go with that.

I've often noticed odd things happen in Diplomacy immediately after applying a patch, such as friendly empires declaring war on my own (with a noble reputation), so I'm not surprised. You could use the editor and restore your reputation I believe.
