Re: Quick Questions Thread

We are playing the GC, are in July 1942, and I still have the GD as a regiment. It sat idle for quite a while, having been in refit at the end of the winter, and I saw no dates anywhere on when it would convert to a division. Q-Ball kindly indicated that I needed to put it to refit mode (from ...

Re: Perpetual Desolation - HLYA (German) vs a Soviet Player

Very interesting and promising report. I will follow this with interest to see how this will play out.

One question please: You have written that the match is on turn 13. Is there any way in a server game to go back and reload the turns to make the screenshots, or have the screenshots been made ...

Re: Quick Questions Thread

Routing direction.

Hi, I'm trying to pocket as many bolchevicks as possible and place some of my units to block some retreat/routing paths.

However routing units do not seem to care: they jump anywhere they want.. despite units blocking their eastward paths for instance..

Is it normal and if ...

Re: Quick Questions Thread

In the GC 1941 as Axis on Turn 1 I can not relocate Air Groups from the theather boxes towards the map. I can only relocate Air Groups between the theather boxes. An Infantry Division I can relocate towards the map from the theather box.

Do I miss something, or is this a bug?

Re: Quick Questions Thread

Another question! What's the best use of CONSTRUCTION units?

I'm very familiar with direct attachment to cities and Fort Zones.

For entrenching....my understanding is they help units entrench, but how does that work?

If you put them at the Corps/Army level, I know they will help ONLY units in ...

Re: Quick Questions Thread

Is there an upside to Disbanding a Depot that you know is about to be overrun? Do you save some trucks and/or supplies? Or does it not really matter either way?

Re: Quick Questions Thread

Question on fortifications: they cost 4 APs to build for the Axis and are great to improve positions not adjacent to the Russians.

Once at level 3, do they bring material benefits during a battle or is it better to disband them and avoid dipping into the limited number available throughout the ...

Quick question: What happens when an isolated unit is scheduled to Withdraw?

Is the withdrawl delayed? Or does that unit "Cheat the Hangman?"

Re: A Corps Issue

It is NOT closed, but setting the build limit to 2 would do so. In April '42, the Build Limit is still 36, which means one could spam lots of Airborne if you were inclined to

Re: A Corps Issue

Thanks M60!

I noticed the Airborne Bde one; that should probably be a House Rule. Soviet Player should probably just not be allowed to create new Airborne Bde, just use the ones given at-start....seems like a reasonable restriction. It is AP-intensive to do that (basically 6 APs for a Guard Rifle ...

A Corps Issue

Comrades!

I am attempting to build my first Tank Corps. The manual says that anytime you build a Corps from at least 2 Guards Elements, the newly-created Corps will then be a Guards Corps. This has worked swimmingly for creating Guards Rifle Corps. However, it does NOT seem to work for Tank Corps ...

Re: Quick Questions Thread

For purposes of First Winter Rules, what qualifies as "Shelter", where Axis units will suffer reduced effects?

CITY/URBAN, I know that

Also, Fort Leves 2+, is that right?

What about size 3 and 4 towns? (in WITE, I believe those qualified)

Thanks!

Leader Rating Questions

I am curious what the most important leader traits are at the various levels of command. This question is important to determining where to slot leaders of course.

I know that generally ADMIN is desireable at High Command levels, and at High Command it's less important that you have good Infantry ...

Re: Let us reform the Red Army of Workers and Peasants! (Advice needed)

Comrades!

Going into Summer 1942, I am curious what your typical Army-level SU attachments are at this phase. Can you please shed some light?

Here is what I am doing:

2 or 3 Artillery Units (Army/Cannon Regt, or Howitzer Bde)
1 AT Regt
1 Mortar Bn
1 Guards Light Rocket
1 AA Unit (Bn or Regt ...

Re: Quick Questions Thread

Question: Can the Axis draw supply in the Sea of Azov?

Let's say you control the Kerch Straits, and all the ports, so no issues there. Will there be any supply deliveries to ports? Or is that a "No", since IIRC only the Soviets actually have cargo ships in the Sea of Azov?

Re: Let us reform the Red Army of Workers and Peasants! (Advice needed)

OK, good to know on Rockets.....they don't work that well. Stick to the standard artillery. Got it.

What about TANK units?

BRIGADES or REGTS for SU attachment? You need Brigades to get to Guards to make Tank Corps, so I know you need some. But aren't REGT more efficient in terms of Manpower/Tanks ...

Good points here! I am also just getting into 1942, and few more questions

ROCKETS: I think the Light Rocket Regts are fine, even when the TOE reduces to 24....am I off base? Rocket Bn are waste of time
ARTILLERY TYPES: Here are the ones I like; am I wrong?
Corps Regt, Gun Regt, BM Howitzer ...

Great AAR as always! Question: Can you post a screenshot showing one of your Ground Attack Air Directives? Curious on how you are setting Altitude, Days, Strikes, and A/C numbers. Thanks!

Re: The Sky’s the Limit- PBEM GC 41 jubjub (Axis) vs. M60A3TTS (Soviet)

That is quite an encirclement for May 1943....really strong work. It looks hopeless for those 9 units; that's a half-Stalingrad right there
