A bit about Bywater who wrote 'The script'

<r> <br/>
Bywater was a famous journalist, and Brit spy. His book, ‘The Great Pacific War’ was a real big deal when it came out. He pretty well wrote the script for WWII in the Pacific. <br/>

Thesis Naval War College Wargaming pre WWII

<r> <br/>
<br/>
This is a Very Interesting Thesis about the US Naval War College’s war gaming up to about 1940. Or I find it interesting in that, despite Bywater’s ‘The Great Pacific War’ and his fight over the possibility of defending the Philippines with Roosevelt in the newspapers, the Naval ...

Coral and Brass by Howling Mad Smith Read it

<r> <br/>
I've known about this book for years. I just got around to reading it. <br/>
<br/>
It's pretty much a Must Read for this crowd. The first half is a short version of how the Marines got ready and all the very serious problems he had. Like Admiral Sims who pretty much created modern Fire ...

Some of this is available free - vol I and II of the Amphibians Came to Conquer from the Marines. Much more WWII stuff is out there. For example the entire US Army Green Book series seems to be on the Army site. <br/>

Naval Anti-Aircraft Guns & Gunnery Norman Friedman <br/>

This is, as always for Friedman, excellent. For this group it has a number of very interesting and useful bits of information. Like which AA systems worked best and how well, including hit and kill percentages, totals, by ...

<t> <br/>
<br/>
Thank you Alfred, I see that it has been addressed once. I'm running the latest Official version so Alexandrovsk does get some- /50. And, no, I didn't realize that the units would not die. I tend to get excited when a unit hits zero supply after reading a few stories from the ...

You need to pay a bit of attention to Russia, even when playing against the AI, like I just found out, or important units will die of starvation and such. <br/>

Alexandrovsk Doesn't Get Suffient Supplies

<t> <br/>
Alexandrovsk doesn't seem to "get" suffient supplies (/50 with 2,516 required at the moment.). It's Jan 24, '43 in my stock game and I've just notice that Alexandrovsk is desperatly short of supplies. Yes, I should have noticed sooner, but, well, since the Allied player can't do much ...

There have been a few other attempts at a flying aircraft carier. The Convair B-36 Peacemaker/F-84 Fighter Conveyor (FICON) was used operationaly for a year or so. The Goblin fighter for the B36 didn't work well (only a few secessful hookups and lots of problems.)<br/>

RE: Damaged Dutch K IX at Darwin refuses to go to Sydney

<t> <br/>
The problem is ship or perhaps captan specific. I've sent other damaged Dutch subs to Sidney with no problems. The ship has suffent range, no waypoints set, etc. I sent it out after all the (precious few)repairs possible at Darwin. <br/>

As erstad has noted, very small steps seem ...

Data Display Problem In Ship Repair Screens?

<t> <br/>
I think I've found a data display problem in the ship repair screens. I've got a ship (xAK Wind Rush) at Noumea with damage that can't be repaired there. She also got upgraded (I think). As a result the "Ships Under Repair" screen shows her with a red 3X under days to repair. This number ...

Damaged Dutch K IX at Darwin refuses to go to Sydney

<t> <br/>
I'm having an odd problem. The badly dammaged Dutch K IX (57% floatation damage) refuses to go to Sydney from Darwin. Every time I try, it goes to Koepang instead. I've set home as Sydney, threat tolerance to absolute etc, but it just won't go. I tried telling "her" to go to Cooktown, but ...

RE: Alaska vs Kongo

<t> <br/>
From Wikipedia<br/>
<br/>
The idea for a large cruiser class originated in the early 1930s, when the U.S. Navy wanted a counter to the "pocket battleships" (Deutschland class) that were being launched and commissioned by Germany. Though nothing resulted immediately, planning for ships ...

RE: After withdrawal date, suddenly can’t disband or withdraw AC unit

Yea. I sort'a already knew that. I guess I just got flustered. I "knew" that there were no fragments. I "knew" that I had seen the withdraw or disband option the move before.

Thanks again.

RE: After withdrawal date, suddenly can’t disband or withdraw AC unit

<t> <br/>
Thanks worked. I thought it wasn't the problem because I got the disband/withdraw option with a different unit. When I tried to disband it, I got an error message. I see now that there is a difference between a missing fragment and a detachment. <br/>
