Re: One of the engagement involve Malyutka and M1A1

The AT-3 has a max-effective range of 2500m, and it was firing at very close range to the M1s, so to cause damage to one tank and force it out of action? Yeah, I personally think that is a valid result regardless of the orientation of the target.

Re: A few questions....

Yes I also have conflicting numbers regarding the M1A1 armor values versus AP and HEAT. Even the SB wiki gives the turret armor for M1A1 as 600mm versus AP and 1100mm versus HEAT.

None of the discussion above though addresses that the Soviet optics could only ID targets out to 4000m, the very edge ...

Re: A few questions....

One comment on the range.
In Bil's save game, the distance between hex centers was 3700m. Given 500m hexes, and the game modeling the vehicles being spread across the hex, some of the engagements will occur at 3200 (both vehicles 'forward' in the hex, so two times 250m closer to another), some ...

Re: A few questions....

Thanks Warren...

So the 2A46M-1 main gun is listed on wiki as having a max effective range for AP and HEAT out to 3000m. The Songster ATGM: 5000m. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2A46_125_mm_gun#Projectiles

To be fair to the numbers Warren, the M1s were never penetrated, only damaged. My beef isn ...

3. TARGETING: As noted in the other sections, without shooting, the Soviets would not have been able to see them at this distance. The spotting model takes height advantage into play, and the hold status provides additional benefits as well, but they are not invisible. I'll get to the numbers part ...

Well that was a fun diversion. 8-)

Anybody is free to log onto BAE Systems website and confirm the job listing, if you don't know what services BAE Systems does for multiple Governments, well then you might want to do some research.

Job is still open by the way.

The reason I posted it here is ...

Re: A few questions....

Sorry for the delay, I was in Jamaica. ;)

Okay, finally have a couple saves showing the problem that I see with the Soviet tanks. The saves, I think show a before and after. The M1A1s are one elevation level higher than the T-64BVs, which were moving. Though the T-64s take a beating they also kill ...

Thank you. Off topic, I am trying to get better at the CM map editing process for another opportunity. Any place to find any good tips?

Re: Left Unsupervised Map Mod

I do use GM to export the data and images for the area I want to map. I then use GIMP to ultimately create the png file for the Map Value Editor. You can use whatever jpg you want for the image used in-game. That's the quick version.

Data: I use whatever data I can load or access via GM. For ...

Regarding # 2. Soviets are on the move but I believe FCSS simulate bounding overwatch and short pause—fire—maneuver. Especially for move deliberate order.
However, I noticed that in two cases, something happened indicate that the Soviet tank gun seems to be too accurate and deadly at long range ...

Re: A few questions....

Bil,

Once Rob is back from his vacation, we should see about getting a call with you and maybe some of your team to talk through things, especially the Pro side elements we can't get into in this forum.

Of course.. and I'll be out of the country until next week too, so we'll be in touch ...

Re: A few questions....

Bil, I'll try to answer some of the questions, and the team members can also jump in.

#1 - With a 500m hex, we decided to have the transports and the passengers as a single unit with the option via SOP to have the transports fall back and hide or support the troops. We ensure the unit has enough ...

Pretty cool to see you in this forum. To the people who don't know, Bil is a legend in the Combat Mission forums and produced the Cold War module for Combat Mission.

#1 No, the IFV's are always treated as a single unit.

#2 I agree, the Soviets are a bit overtuned. I think all we can do is keep ...

A few questions....

Okay, have only played a few games so far and learning the system, overall a cracker of a game. However I have a couple questions:

1. Is there a way to separate IFVs and their infantry? I would love to be able to place the IFVs in an overwatch position and move forward on foot with the dismounts. I ...

I live in Fredericksburg too. ;) The VRE train is a perfect way to avoid the traffic, I am on it every day... unfortunately most of this work does require you to work on site.

I have reached out to William to see if he can get you squared away with the information. May take a day or so as we are working crazily on last-minute items for the Southern Storm release in a few weeks.

Hope to get you going soon.

Hi,

You can use the example project to start your own map with a lot ...
