RE: SP:WaW vs SP:WW2

For many reasons, I favor SP2WW2, and it's companion, SPMBT. I don't get a lot of the DOS crashing some have experienced. The only problem was having to upgrade my VGA, that cost 50 bucks, but was well worth it.

Yes, but smoke is not an inpenetrable curtain. It reduces chances of spotting, reather than being a solid wall.

There was a definate difference for US ammo in WW2. Armor piercing ammo, hardened tip, being available as an option.

RE: Aggressive or Conservative?

<t> Proper preparation is the answer. Use cheap recon to find the enemy, then lay artillery on him, before assaulting. Attacking a suppressed enemy is easier than an unsuppressed one. Firepower and combined arms so that all units strengths are maximized, and weaknesses minimalized.<br/>

<t> I like historical reality as much as possible, given the realization that the game is a "model" of reality; not actual reality and thus has inherent limitations. I am sure that it is also interesting to experiment somewhat as well. My next pursuits are evolution of force structure and tactics ...

RE: 7.1

If you go to the download site only 8.0 and the 8.1 patch is available. If anybody is desperate, I can burn and mail a copy of 7.1. Most people probably have it already except for new people just starting.

<t> Your experience is similar to mine. In Holt's guide this exact issue is discussed. Mine clearing is a time consuming process. Assault games should probably be set up with more turns, if possible, to account for this. The dumb computer pulls a fast one. <br/>

RE: 7.1

Hello. Noticed your request for 7.1. I went to the download site and saw that you can only get 8.0 there. If you saved my e-mail address, send me your mailing address and I'll burn you a copy and put in the mail.

<t> Be advised that SP2WW2 has obsevation planes that are plotted like artillery. You get a pass after plotting where you want it to go. This seems to take care of what some would call abuse. Yet, late war you get helicopters, which hover and spot. <br/>

Can't see this as abuse. This is ...

<t> I disregard the draw/victory/loss rating; exactly because of what you indicated regarding the points. Probably best it interpet the points in an absolute sense and who is holding the victory hexes at the end. I think maybe the point rating works in games versus the AI, in which you can limit ...

<t> I play PEBM SPWAW, SP2WW2 and SPMBT; and thus have faced quite a variety of opponent's TOE and OOB choices. I really don't care what an opponent chooses and have played games in which my poor, brave British face nothing but Sturmpioneers, Panthers with infra-red and if I see a Panzer IV; it is ...

SP2WW2v6.1 versus SPWAWv8.1

<t> Hello. Used to play 7.1; I gave it up in favor of SP2WW2v6.1. Need input regarding which is better, I am considering getting version 8.1.<br/>
<br/>
SP2WW2 does seem to have better auto generated maps for example and OOB's are better. SPWAW has better mechanics of game setup and play. I do ...

SPWAW 1949-2003

Are there any plans to expand WAW for post 1949 combat as in the original Steel Panthers 2? I enjoy fighting modern armor; unfortunately SP2 won't play on a XP operating system.
