RE: VR Training?

<t> When you get training rewards like this from missions they come in the form of development points. You get the points in all three categories, so in this case each of your jocks should have recieved 50 DPs in each category plus whatever they earned during the mission. Sometimes its hard to ...

RE: The advantage of smaller missile racks

<r> Hmm, probably should have explained my second way of looking at the problem a little better. It is an attempt at giving a practical example of taking smaller missile racks to increase your raw dmg/s while also taking into account the increased heat reg you would need to compensate for the ...

RE: The advantage of smaller missile racks

<t> Yes, # of slots can also make a difference. I’m not certain that there is a good way of calculating this, but will try looking at in two different ways.<br/>
<br/>
The first way is to take dmg/s for 2 small LRM and GMH racks and adjust it for number of slots (dmg/s*7/8). The new comparisons ...

RE: The advantage of smaller missile racks

<t> These are both good points. Their not being included is more a matter of the method of comparison I choose than oversight though. It pretty much comes down to statistics being the third type of lie. <br/>

The problem with heat you mentioned is situational and should average out over time ...

RE: changes for lights

<t> Came up with a better modification for the Poltergeist. Used a Molorla L2 chasis and had to shuffle several weapons and systems to make it work.<br/>

The advantage of smaller missile racks

<t> Warning: this is rather dry stuff.<br/>
<br/>
Some debate over the effectiveness of larger and smaller missile racks came up in the ‘Talon’ thread. It looks like this led to some of the changes made in the 1.21 patch. These changes made larger missile racks more effective than they were, but ...

RE: changes for lights

IIRC you suggested, in another thread, that the Poltergeist's ML should be in the head. Wish I'd remembered that when I was fiddling with the design as this makes the most sense.

changes for lights

<t> Moving on to the light titans. . . .<br/>
<br/>
Poltergeist - changed LT and RT armor to vicenium (no armor loss, gained .8t free weight), lowered LA and RA armor by 2mm each (loss of 1AP on each arm), and increased flares and LS both to level 2. Swapped scanner and BC (IMO the scanner is more ...

RE: changes for recons

<t> On the Duellist you are still .08t shy of being able to upgrade the LS after switching the arms to dullaroy. It seems like to the only other reasonable options are 1) 2mm from CBT and 1mm from LoT or 2) 1mm from each arm. Either way you still wind up with an overall loss of 2AP, but don't ...

changes for recons

<r> I downloaded the updated database (its great) when the 1.21 patch (also great) came out and I've run into several recon designs that seem like they could use some changes. All suggestions, of course (and some better than others) [:)]<br/>

RE: Atlas

<t> Good points. I wasn't thinking about the heat you'd be taking for shield hits and for using the ML (was only thinking of this as back up).<br/>
<br/>
Run-n-gun is an interesting approach. Optimal range seems like it would be between 5 and 8 hexes and the JJs can help maintain that distance ...

RE: Atlas

<t> I don't particularly like these changes. The AC12s don't fit the role of a long range support titan nearly as well as the GCs. The extra punch and smoke are nice, but don't make up for the loss of the GC's increased accuracy, range and non-explody ammo IMO. Engine and Heat Reg both seem a bit ...

RE: Some attempts at updated assaults

<t> I like the look of some of the modifications you've made. The Vertigo especially and for several reasons. I've always had trouble closing and then using its BRGs effectively, the shield and cooling rate will really help. I've also hated feeling like I need an uber-jock to use all of its weapon ...

RE: Fun with newbs

<t> I believe the recycle option being questioned is actually wait for 'next' available weapon of any type. Granted I can't see the code from where I'm sitting, but I do see how it functions in the game and can't imagine it being implimented any more elegantly.<br/>

Also, the example seems ...

RE: RE:

<t> I'm always on the lookout for good strategy games (and usually disappointed when I get a new one). Ran across a brief description of TOS when doing some searching (on Gamespot I believe) and it looked decent. I picked up a copy for $10 at EB games, which was a nice suprise since the box was ...
