I have played CM2 a bit. Gunner, HEAT, PC! is something different, but you might want to check it out.

Re: SPWAW

What really turned me off to SPWAW was when the defender was allowed to have potentially limitless fire far exceeding anything physically possible. I remember this one time when I got an infantry platoon to Northern map edge. Enemy reinforcements arrived from that edge, and a dozen or whatev tanks ...

Re: What games are you playing?

Past couple of weeks I've been playing lots of different games. At least a little of each. I watched a video about Ultima Underworld which made me realize the game is more awesome than I remember: doors can be broken in! I gave a run for modded SPWAW (courtesy of Major_Mess), and I'm rusty. Beyond r...

Re: What games are you playing?

Darklands is a low fantasy RPG from 1992. Claims to depict 15th century "Greater Germany" (from Denmark to Austria) as people of the time believed it with superstitions and myths. I don't know if the game is on target, but I've been having a good time with it. Much of the game is text and...

Re: SPWAW

I think it was Major Mess who made a fan patch for SPWAW. Does it have anything to improve compatibility with Win 10/11?

Been years since I last played the game. I got WinXP desktop on the floor if I ever care to play it again. Some cool scenarios which likely aren't all remade for WinSPWW2.

How so? Remote controlled drones has been a thing in war games for decades by now. Just today I played one.

Let me guess: it's about an American escort carrier group and their destroyer escort stopping a Japanese battleship fleet led by BB Yamato.

I got Warhammer 40,000: Gladius - Relics of War a good while ago, but I installed it just past weekend. 4X game, essentially Pandora: First Contact with WH40K skin and combat scaled down to tactical level similar to Warhammer 40,000: Armageddon. I have enjoyed the game 16 hours so far and lost hours...

Re: Looking for the Matrix Version Advanced Squad Leader game

I feel an urge to interject. Another legendary board war game, BattleTech, has got a few faithful video game adaptations. So far the best one is MegaMek. Another is Titans of Steel: Warring Suns, which was available here on the Matrix site for a time but doesn't seem to be anymore. Both games are (s...

Re: Entry level HEX-based wargame?

If you want an "earlier" Shadow Empire experience, set in ww2, then Advanced Tactics Gold is always an option. Despite it looking super simple, there is a surprising depth to it. To elaborate on that, ATG has some WW2 scenarios. It also has a random game generator that makes random maps a...
