RE: Dieppe battle

That sounds like the one. The designer had gone so far as to rename all the Canadian units by their historical unit designations. It was a very tough scenario (as befitting the actual outcome of the raid), and a great piece of work . . . I'm glad it hasn't been lost to the ages . . .

RE: command vehicles, what do they do?

I thought command tents gave a rally bonus to surrounding units . . . if not, why to they come with an experience bonus?

Dieppe battle

An earlier version of SPWAW (7.0?) had a Dieppe raid battle that seems to be missing from later versions . . . is it still accessible somewhere? Will it work with v8.3?

RE: "override security"

Won't you also get that message if your opponent has started his turn, then re-downloaded the game files so he can restart his turn? Not to sound paranoid or anything . . .

RE: Losing Your A0 Unit

<t> I usually upgrade my AO to a tracked FO at the first opportunity - that way, I'm never without a FO in contact with my AO.<br/>
<br/>
I also use a regular FO as a weapons platoon commander - I reassign all MGs, mortars and LMGs to one unit. Not sure if this has an impact on their rally, but it ...

<t> Couldn't find the actual link to the download on spwaw.com . . . ?<br/>
<br/>
- later - now I see it. Maybe I had be logged in to see it . . .? Can't wait to play it. I'm reading Antony Beevor's book right now. I logged in to find out if anyone had a Stanigrad map, and what do I find? A whole ...

Bridging equipment

<t> This is probably a flight of fantasy, but have the developers ever considered adding bridging equipment to SPWAW/SPMBT? <br/>
<br/>
I'm picturing a "bridge layer" truck that could be parked on the bank of a narrow river (say, 100 yards/2 hexes max), and if left unsurpressed and unmoved for a ...

RE: Amphib. defence

<t> We just got underway . . . I may be screwed though. The visibility for the game is very low - 3 hexes max, which makes it impossible for me sink his transports as they approach the shore, and means I have to basically let his stumble into my defensive positions, rather than setting up cross-fire ...

RE: Amphib. defence

<t> We always play at least 2-1 for assault games. I played a 8500 point German force against his 20,000 point Soviet force in a FIBUA fight a couple of months back and held him to a draw. He just played a 8500 point Finnish force against my 20,000 Soviet force, and held me to a draw.<br/>

Amphib. defence

<t> I want to pick the brains of the more seasoned players on here . . . I'm about to start a PBEM game as the Germans against Canada at Juno Beach.<br/>
<br/>
I've played the prepared scenario as Canada before, along with the rest of the D-Day scenarios, so I have a general idea of how the ...

RE: Help - 'move all'

Thanks - I didn't see the 'a' key under the Help display . . . I burned a copy of the game to CD for use on a work laptop, but didn't have the manual file on the CD. Back to my own laptop now, so problem solved. Thanks again.

Help - 'move all'

I somehow turned 'move all' units feature on in a PBEM game . . . not sure how, and also not sure how to turn it off. I don't have access to the manual. How do I turn off the 'move all' feature?

SPMBT install problem

Just downloaded SPMBT on Windows XP. Two problems:

I don't seem to have the correct sound driver?

It only runs in a small window, in which the cursor moves verrrrrrry slowly?

Suggestions?

RE: Getting in cover

<t> 1. You can usually tell rough terrain by looking at it. The cursor trick should tell you too. Mixed means just that. The rougher the terrain, the better the cover (i.e. rocks are better than long grass).<br/>
<br/>
2. You can set an AT gun on a house while on the deployment menu, or if it's a ...

RE: Motorcycles in winter

<t> I'm playing a PBEM game right now (defending against a river crossing), where I bought several sections of German hvy motorcycles to use a rapid response force against rubber boats or infantry that make it to my shore . . . a couple of sections took some heavy small arms fire on turn 2, and now ...

RE: Jungle Fighting

<t> I was recently playing a PBEM game as Japan vs. USMC, 1945, rough jungle terrain.<br/>
<br/>
I went heavy on Japanese armour, with a platoon of engineers, and 3-4 snipers, to support each platoon of 3-4 tanks. I mounted a sniper on each tank to 'absorb' the first burst of small arms fire as I ...
