RE: The conclusions of Operation Highland

<t> quick note: I also got the black intermission screen that had me wait for something. I had the game's frame graphics, a button, but the center rectangle that looked like a cutscene display of sorts did not show anything other than black. I clicked the button and continued on to the third ...

RE: Fighters crashing on landing

<t> Well, my first impression of Universal Combat was: "Is this even beta?"<br/>
Also, Derek practically gave up on fixing a fatal ded. server crash. After months of trying to pinpoint the problem, there was no solution. I don't know whether his latest titles have that one fixed, or the "touch-any ...

Phoenix, this might be OT, but since you misplaced your TA discs....&nbsp; http://taspring.clan-sy.com/ (And no you don't really need to have the TA CDs for that one to work ;) )

RE: defeating sam's and aaa

<t> Hmm, well I usually deal with the SAMs first, AAA second. Dodging SAMs is much harder IMO so they're my first priority. Use a low emcon setting without locking on to the targets to get as close as possible without them firing. Then use flares, afterburner, and zig-zag maneuvers to close within ...

RE: Fighters crashing on landing

You know, if this were a game by Derek Smart, he'd responded something like "Our software does not have bugs, you are using it incorrectly."&nbsp;[:D]
I'm faithful that the code guru will put an end to this bug in due time.

RE: Fuel Usage observation

That's certainly true about the F16, and I agree that the fuel consumption during drifting in space is way too much for my taste.

RE: Fuel Usage observation

<r> I, too, wondered about where my fuel was going while I was Newtonian, Manual, drifting through space with no engine power applied and no thrusters in use. I just drift there with 4x acceleration and it burns fuel. A lot of fuel.<br/>

RE: Fighters crashing on landing

<t> He is talking about the AI dudes. And yes, crashes still happen. I even observed two fighters crashing into each other after takeoff!<br/>
<br/>
IMO the autonav sometimes behaves erratically, causing the fighter to "corkscrew" around the direction of the next waypoint. The same can be observed ...

RE: a few questions re: cockpit

Yes, but that way you will end up squinting at the targets ;)

What I'm missing in this game is a flexible zoom feature. Add another key besides the "k" and have them increase and decrease the zoom factor. -4x to +8x would be more than enough.

RE: a few questions re: cockpit

I understand your concern about the cockpit, but I myself tend to fly with cockpit enabled all the time. Why? Well it does look cool, and the visual canopy reflection cue is well-done.

RE: MAximum resolution

I don't understand why the screen mode dropdown box doesn't offer all the enumerated resolutions to begin with. I too suffer from 1680x1050itis and I get the eyebrow cramps when these black bars appear on the sides of my screen.

RE: looking for feedback on starshatter: the gathering

<t> As owner of the previous version, I must say that I'm quite satisfied with the new Starshatter as a whole, even though I do agree that several aspects could've been improved a lot more for this amount of money.<br/>

The mediocre spots in the game can be summed up rather quickly:<br ...

RE: Battlestar Question

W00t. And I'm glad to see you're starting to enjoy the series. I must say the way they worked out things so far was amazing. As for reference pics, I think there's a Battelstar galactica game out there (commercial) - how about looking there for reference pics?

RE: Farscape and Battlestar

<t> No really, he's running his own sect with himself as guru. Nethertheless, he was absolutely interested in making a Battlestar Galactica remake, and I've even seen design drawings of the proposed Battlestar bridge - which looked much more like the old series than what we see on TV now. All in all ...

RE: Farscape and Battlestar

<r> DamoclesX, the fighters in BSG can turn and stop on a dime. If you watched the pilot miniseries, you'll see Apollo come to a stop above an elevator pad inside the landing bay, turn 180 degrees and set down on it. I think the point of their so-called "combat landings" is to have all fighters on ...

RE: Farscape and Battlestar

<t> I was the biggest Battlestar Galactica critic. I kinda grew up with the original shows, and when they announced that cylons were going to look like humans, I went "Ewwwww....."<br/>
<br/>
However, I then proceeded to watch pilot miniseries. And i was converted to their cause. Is the show ...

The servers will appear automagically in your server list. I just had to take the server offline for a while.

RE: Milo got a question.

<t> @Milo: Let's not forget the fact that it wasn't DirectX's fault that bumpmapping was done with "a hack", as you called it. Matrox was one of the first card vendors to support Bumpmapping, and the technique and limitations were the same in OpenGL and DirectX. As you stated, the early GPUs didn't ...

RE: Milo got a question.

<r> Instead of writing, I'm quoting a quick rundown of the differences (Yeah I know I'm lazy <E>;)</E> )<br/>

<QUOTE><s>[quote]</s>In 3D computer graphics, normal mapping is an application of the technique known as bump mapping. Bump mapping is a technique where at each pixel, a perturbation to ...
