Wolfenbüttel, FRG

The area around Wolfenbüttel, FRG, held strategic importance in any 1980s Cold War Gone Hot scenario due to its location near the Inner German Border, roughly 30 km from the East German frontier. Situated between Braunschweig and the Harz Mountains, it provided a crucial corridor for Warsaw Pact ...

Re: AB2 v Regiments (or WARNO)?

I enjoy Regiments, the difference between AB1/2 and Regiments is abstraction. Regiments has a lot of abstraction, which is fine and works for that design philosophy. Everything about the Armored Brigade engine is 1:1, from the units, to maps, to combat resolution, which in the end makes it much more ...

Re: ERA blocks and FCSS scenarios

I would expect to see ERA equipped T-64's and T-80's for any action that shifts north of FCSS. Certainly by 89, the bulk of the tanks in the 8th Guards Army and 3rd Shock Army seem to have had added ERA.

Sontra,FRG Custom Map

The German III Corps covered the sector north of the Fulda Gap. This map is located within that sector, along the border region northeast of Bad Hersfeld.

The map uses a customized jpg file for the in-game image, and features 20m elevations levels instead of the game's standard 50m.

Sontra, FRG ...

Re: Wurzburg Map, New Scenario, and Modified Database Files

Does your modified force data (excel sheets) only affect this scenario. IE- will having them in those folders affect all other scenarios?

No effect having them in the folders - in fact you don't even need the excel sheets to run the scenarios.

I actually was looking at some updates to this in ...

Re: Map making- rivers

I've used minor lakes in custom maps to simulate wider rivers that don't consume a 500m hex. Works perfect.

Re: A more deliberate AI?

It's really up to whomever is creating the BP's for a scenario, and has its own set of challenges the more complicated the plan becomes. I suppose not unlike real life. I've now created about ten scenarios with three BP's for each side, and I still am working on getting better. We will see what gets ...

That's good stuff. Dug in infantry in good positions are tough. Good terrain analysis is important too. The cover and concealment should be something players are aware of, as is checking LoS.

Alsfeld, Germany

Many know the small German city of Alsfeld from Tom Clancy's Red Storm Rising. The city is nestled in the walds and bergs of the western Fulda Gap. The A5 autobahn runs through the southern side of the city. Travel east a dozen kilometers and the highway intersects the A7, west of Bad Hersfeld and ...
