RE: Battle of Kursk - Soviet (Colour!) footage

<t> Romano colorizes, though they do a fine job it was shot in B&W. I tried to read the writing on the building at .54 but can’t make it out, but I think its in roman alphabet not cyrillic. The SU 85 at 1:16 is somewhere in Germany, I am basing that on architecture. They went into service in August ...

RE: The core problem with WitE+

<t> The VP system does not have to be territorial. It’s one of the things that amazes me about the game, that the VP system is so primitive.<br/>
A system that added VP every time either side takes a city could lead to a better game.<br/>
A system that scored VP for every attack, failed or ...

I'm a critic, and you can see a lot of discussion of game the design on my AAR. I will not be launching a 1941-45 campaign game again. I think its possible that the game works for the scenarios, and I may try some of them. If you already have the game that is what I would ...

T40 thoughts for Pelton

<r> I’m posting this screenshot because I think it is important for Pelton’s AAR. Saper222 does not stay forward and is very careful not to expose himself to counter attack. I wanted to show the troops deployments clearly so I did not leave the combat icons up, but he hit all the hexes around the ...

T40 comes in

<r> To the many loyal fans of this AAR I am sorry I have not been able to post much recently, work has gotten very busy, but I am back with turn 40 opening now.<br/>
<br/>
In my turn 39 I broke contact along the entire front, its clear that the Red Army can't fight forward at this time. I need to ...

RE: Running away

<t> @ Pelton,<br/>
Winning or losing this particular round is not what I am commenting on. Your game with Saper222 also makes me think the game is dull, in fact your game is what brought me to that conclusion, not this one.<br/>
At work I spend a lot of time with software, looking at data and ...

RE: Running away

<t> @flaviusx you post here, and a number of others on this thread all assume you know the thoughts of another human being even when they explicitly say you do not. <br/>
I’m sorry but I have no answer for that kind of comment.<br/>

RE: Running away

@hfarrish I'm afraid I don't have the before screenshots. One of my big problems with the game is the sheer amount of time it burns to play well, and adding screenshots to that has not been possible lately because of work issues.

Running away

<r> So I am afraid the worst has happened, the game is getting boring. <br/>
As you all saw I attempted to fight in the snow, the upshot of that is several of my army groups have been surrounded. I think I’ll end up losing 700,000 to a million men. <br/>
<br/>
That does not really bother me, and ...

RE: The core problem with WitE+

<t> I’ll go several levels up from Pelton’s concern. <br/>
<br/>
The problem with the game is a design decision to sacrifice realism and to some degree playability in order to gain detail and complexity.<br/>
<br/>
The result is a huge problem with bugs, a combat system that everyone agrees is ...

RE: T37 Disengaging here and there

<r> In the far North I continue to smash the Fins, they seem to be reaching the critical point of losing moral in an accelerating cycle. I’m thinking hard about putting my armored corps up here to blitz them in early summer. <br/>
The troops Saper222 threatened with encirclement all walked away ...

RE: T37 Disengaging here and there

<r> Saper222 is going to try to win the game in the South, that has been obvious for many turns, so he has no armor in the North. Around Moscow there was very little action by either of us, mostly just moves to consolidate the lines.<br/>

RE: T37 Disengaging here and there

<r> This is where my miscalculation on the movement really hurt, I counted hexes as I moved T38, but did not screen the flanks of these armies successfully.<br/>
<br/>
I’m counter attacking here to try for a rescue, and in the hopes of banging up the Germans. The big question is how much of this ...

RE: T37 Disengaging here and there

<r> The biggest problem I am having is time, it took me 5 or 6 hours to make the move. Very careful thought and carefully looking at everything you do really pays as the Soviets, but it way too time consuming. Some of the very time consuming things that help the Soviets win<br/>

RE: T37 Disengaging here and there

<t> Rasmus you have explained some things I have been grappling with. Every turn I cycle low moral air groups into reserve and higher moral group back into the battle. I try to avoid taking huge casualties unless I am grinding up the Germans because it takes moral and experience down. Sometimes huge ...

RE: T37 Disengaging here and there

<t> Not to pick a fight, but I've boosted the over all quality of the Red Airforce by 20 or 30 experience points and a similar increase in moral. Maybe you are thinking of ground units? Those are governed by national moral and improvements are limited.<br/>

Even if the performance is limited ...

RE: Fort Construction

<t> I ran a little experiment as well, including one fort attached to an army with no construction assets, and another set attached to an army that had construction assets, and a fort attached to Stavka. The army with the construction assets built fastest, but the army built faster than Stavka.<br ...

RE: turn 26 Cavalry Corps

<t> At the start of the turn before anything moves I open the air unit screen. I sort by moral, because low moral units do not fly. When I first got serious about air I moved anything with a moral below 40 into the national reserve, and anything with a moral 55 or above back into action. After 10 ...

I was late to start training my airforce, you can start earlier and do more damage sooner.
