RE: 10 Worst aircraft of WWII

BA.88 you have to wonder how this plane went from the drawing board, prototype, test flights and finally production before someone realised that it was worthless.

RE: 10 Worst aircraft of WWII

<t> I do not think that the CR 42 was that bad in 1939/40, the problem was that they kept it in service far too long. A similar situation came about with the TBD, although almost any plane flying into that many fresh Zeros with no friendly fighter cover was going to have a hard time, although at lea...

RE: CLAAs vs CLs/CAs

<t> IJN carriers may have had fire barriers, but nothing you can design into a ship at that time can come close to the situation at Midway. A full deck of armed and fueled planes, and another round or ordinance stacked around the hangar deck. The USS Franklin comparison is close in terms of one hit ...

RE: 10 Worst aircraft of WWII

It's easier to point at aircraft that were outdated by the time combat started. My question would be the 10 worst planes that came into production AFTER sept 39.

RE: How about matrix take responsibility and get bugs fixed now!

it would be interesting to see how, legally, they can continue to sell a product that they know is flawed, without stating to the public. They have fixed most of the problems, but this is still not a working, complete product yet.

RE: Midway

<t> Those extra carriers COULD have changed a lot. At least they open up a lot of "what if's". For example, if Ryujo and Junyo were added to Kondo's invasion force, do they take over the main duty of air cover for Midway itsef? If so, Nagumo launches one strike, and does not worry about a second and...

RE: Best pre-1942 CA

<t> I never really consdered the pocket Battleships a CA class, mainly as the full load displacement of over 16000 tons, although that is only 2000 more than an Atago class at full load. As such, in a one-on-one fight they would probably win against any single cruiser. 6 11" guns and an additional f...

RE: OT Beautiful Ships of WWII

We need classes for "light" battleships such as the Sharnhorst type, WWI vets such as Warspie, and the old US and Italian BBs that were rebuilt, and/or battle-cruisers such as the Alaska, Dunkerque, ect.

RE: OT Beautiful Ships of WWII

I have to agree that a fleet of US frigates would probably beat a fleet of 74-gun SotL's if you put the same resources into each. The Constitutions were basically small SotL's themselves when you consider just how strongly they were built.

Best pre-1942 CA

<t> This has probably been discussed before, but what are the opinions on the best CA class in service prior to 1942. I understand that this will probably be an axis ship due to going over the treaty limits, and by the end of the war there was no CA out here to go one-on-one with a Baltimore class. ...

RE: Something for the experts - the shock of firing main guns

Good point on the old electronice, and as Apollo mentioned, Bismark damaged her own radar. Also Yamato supposedly had big issues with shock from her main battery. It probably would have causes serious issues if she was in more than a short term gun duel with an allies fleet.

Yamato class gets my vote. Something that big with clean lines and still looks like a Battleship

<t> you have not lived until you walk out your front door when the eye of the Hurricane comes over and look at the tree that has fallen on your house! Still, on the gulf coast, we are used to getting ready for hurricanes. This is a once in a lifetime event for the NYC area. As low as some areas are ...

RE: 6 inch armed Myoko's

<t> Probably a slight edge over a Brooklyn class, but then again she is almost 50% the displacement I think. A Cleveland would probably have a slight edge even giving up a turret. Fire control and protection come into play, and if I remember right, turret armor on the IJN tripple 6" was only 1.5 on ...

RE: anyone played old boardgames?

<t> The problem is for the good games like WiF, Longest day and some others, you need a pretty large room that you do not need for anything else and can keep the pets out of. Back in college an older friend had a "mother in laws" house in back and used that for WiF. it was ideal, but resources like ...

RE: Tora Tora Tora

I thought the "Nagato" part was shot onboard the USS Texas. Speaking of which, I sure hope they can drydock the old lady soon. Went on board this summer and she sure is showing her age. If I could figure out how to add picks on here I would post some
