RE: OT: Your Favorite Comedy

My gameplay provides more than enough comedy (or is that farce).

Microwave "gas station" burritos and a Shiner (when I can get it, I operate in a lot of remote sites).

RE: AOs

<t> 1) Impose operational and movement penalties on land units stacked past threshold densities dependant on terrain. Some of the land deathstar juggernauts that are currently possible exceed even first world war troop densities. After a certain point they just start getting in each other's way and ...

RE: Game Won't Load

<r> Probably wore themselves out reliving past glories over the last several years, funny how you keep seeing the same old (figuratively and now literally) faces at these things. One of the funniest items anyone ever sent me was a copy of the Austin Chronicle while I was in the middle east in 1991 ...

RE: Game Won't Load

Well, if all goes well I'll be there for a couple of weeks to catch up with the family and then it'll be off to Dahlgren, VA. Should have time to hit The Posse, Schultz's and the Dog and Duck though. I'm in need of a Shiner Bock fix.

<t> Haven't been around in awhile, congrats, Russ, hope things are proceeding smoothly. <br/>
You sound kind of like a buddy of mine: Marines (Force Recon), followed by Army (Special Forces) then Navy (SEALs), the guy made O3 often enough to cummulatively have been flag rank by now. We used to tell ...

Thanks, it'll be a few weeks yet, then. Heading back to Austin from Reno then. Too bad I can't get an install via the net in the interim since I have broadband cable here.

Game Won't Load

<t> I'd meant to address this awhile back but I forgot my log in information which was on another computer. The computer that I had originally installed the game on suffered a mother board casualty back in April. I transferred the hard drive to the newer, faster machine that I replaced it with ...

RE: British at india

<t> Weren't the Viet Minh fairly active in Indochina throughout the war? This would have required garrisons. I also suspect the impact of Filipino guerrilla activity is grossly underplayed (I haven't studied this very much, anyone have insite into this?). It seems that a number of places that may be ...

<r> <QUOTE><s>[quote]</s>Just out of curiosity does anyone know this: <br/>
<br/>
When they did airial minning did they lay the mines right in or very near the ports or did they mine further out in the sea lanes?? <br/>

If they dropped the mines right in the harbors then I would think ...

RE: DDs finding and destroying mines?

<t> Gotcha, we had a lot of trouble with magnetic sweeps as well, generally with insulation. I suspect that with the availability of computers to control things like ship counters and sleeper modes, the old methods of sweeping magnetic mines would only be effective with older designs. The general ...

RE: northwards... to alaska!!!

<t> One major gripe with the game is the weather model. It shouldn't have been that hard to implement regional and seasonal weather and then have it influence operations (other than the perpetual thunderstorms plagueing one of the AAR writers). Flying weather in some parts of Alaska, especially pre ...

RE: DDs finding and destroying mines?

<t> Actually it's worse than 1950s, the Orepesa sweep that most of you are probably thinking of (paravanes, serrate wire, cutters) was introduced in the form of modified trawling gear around 1916[:)]. Normal sweep speed is around 4 knots, faster and an encounter with a mine cable will wreck your ...

RE: Are you a Pollywog or a Shellback?

<t> Our bluenose was during Northern Wedding one year, they took the TF up north of Iceland specifically to give us the opportunity (really wasn't too much of a boondoggle, we were headed in that general direction, anyway) we got flathatted by a pair of Backfires a little later on. I imagine this ...

Will they be doing H4? It's been on and off for quite awhile.
