Named Pilot Pool

Post by matchwood »

How does this work? I dispanded about 200 planes + pilots at Osaka and a turn later the named pilot queue has dropped back to 7 - I'm sure I didn't have that much go out as reinforcements...is it a bug?

Just posted the same question myself in the update V1.801 thread [;)]

I have 0 normal pool pilots and 7 named pilots but when I try to add a new pilot to a squadron it is creating an untrained pilot. Seems to be something wrong here...

Is the group of the same type (eg IJ Navy) as the Named pool number?

What seems to be happening is I disband a IJN group and those pilots are available (in the same turn) to "import" into another IJN squadron and then they dissapear after playing a turn - the named pilots number drops down to <10 and clicking on import pilot will not bring a named pilot.

I turned off all automatic air reinforcements to test this over several turns and named pilots are dissapearing after a turn is played.

Is this a bug that anyone else is able to replicate? Are named pilots supposed to work beyond the turn they are created?

The named pilots will stay in the pool until drawn upon.

I currently has 25 in this pool, and it has stayed at that amount for awhile, as I have turned off all replacements for my groups.
When I manually click "Get pilot" for a group of the same nationality/service, I got a named pilot from the pool.

I've discovered that there are 2 different types of named pilots in the pool. The first group is the "normal" named pilots who become available on a certain date and are scheduled to go to a specific unit when that unit needs a replacement. When I upgraded to 1.081 I saw that the IJAAF had 15 named pilots and the IJNAF had 56 named pilots and I hadn't yet disbanded any units into them (it's mid-July 1942). I ran a couple of tests. I disbanded a 12 plane Army chutai at Osaka. I was able to add 12 named pilots to various units. The 13th pilot added was untrained, even though 15 named pilots remained (presumedly the originals at the start of the turn). When I got the turn back (PBEM) the totals were now 11 and 55. This told me that the "normal" named pilot total had a net decrease of 4. Four more were pulled out than put in. I think this is because they aren't added unless there are planes for them to fly. I was able to add planes to units that hadn't been receiving needed planes with replacements on. A suggestion here - when you add planes to a unit, wait a turn to add pilots. Sometimes, you'll get some named pilots from the "normal" pool and won't have to use one of your converts. I also recommend you add to and pull from the pool in the same turn to better keep track of your pilots.

Mike, very good summary of what is happening. I would tend to agree with your thoughts from my experience over the last couple of days. It took me a while to figure why I was drawing untrained pilots while there were pilots still in the named pool.

michaelm....my issue last week with chutai returning with trained pilots after "disbandment" I think could be because of the named pilot pool donating pilots to those units eventhough before the 1.8 patch they returned with no pilots or a/c. Just a thought??? In six game days I have another disbanded unit returning, I will note my named pilot pool the day before and see what happens with this returning chutai....terry

I have the same thing happen. All pilots vanished and the groups that should arrive in 90 days too. This feature was thrown in too fast and as it is now it´s broken. Wonder why people even discuss it that heavily.

This is what happens when you no longer have the time to follow each thread - just discovered the 'named pilot disappearing bug' the hard way: disbanded floatplane and transport units into the named pilot pool to have replacments for fighter units and KB in the upcoming battle for Tarawa (which I neglected to occupy early and now in April 42 has a sizeable US garrison and big airfield...) - had 106 IJA and 204 IJN named pilots in the pool - next turn all disappeared. Great, just great - and it's a PBEM, of course...

PS: I'm playing v1.801.

Yeah, moving pilots into the replacement pool thing isn't working as thought. You need to reallocate those pilots you put in there the same turn you send them there. Otherwise you lose them forever. [:(] Another "problem" that has resulted from this change is that when the disbanded units come back, sometimes it'll come with high experience pilots (80+). I don't do it anymore because of the problems that are occuring. It was a great idea but it's not working as promised.
