RE: TF Info Screen: speed modes?
Mode:
c=cruise speed
m=mission speed
f=full speed
It is about TF speed modes, they default to Mission on creation, and you are OK with using those most of the time. Useful to check if you forget turn off Full speed for TFs you wanted to dash the past turn. Full speed moves them max distance for both day and night phases but expends fuel much faster and accumulates quite some system damage.

No, I was not incorrect.
1. Technically, there are only two speed modes, maximum or cruise. Mission speed is neither an in between third speed nor an average of maximum + cruise. Mission speed is the same as cruise speed except when certain factors come into play at which point the TF automatically goes to maximum speed and once those factors cease to be in play, the TF drops back to cruise speed.
2. Certainly up to and including the official 6th patch, and it is not mentioned in the notes to the latest official patch (#7), there is no "f" speed mode indicator on the TF Information Screen.
3. The speed of a TF is determined by the achievable speeds of the slowest vessel in the TF. Section 6.1.3 of the manual explains the information presented on the Ship Information screen. Within this section on page 85 of the manual the Lexington's two possible speeds, her "Max Speed" which is 33 knots equivalent for game purposes to be 9 hexes, and her "Cruise Speed" which is 15 knots equivalent to 4 hexes are specifically pointed out. Later on s.6.2.3 of the manual specifically deals "Task Force Speed". The opening sentence of this section, on page 91, specifically states:
"Every TF has a calculated Maximum TF Speed and a Cruising TF Speed".
On neither the Ship Information screen nor the Task Force Information screen is there any mention of what would be the rate of travel (whether in knots or game hexes) if the player has selected mission speed. This is because there is no different independent rate.
What was in post #2 is correct.

RE: TF Info Screen: speed modes?
Sorry, "F" indicator is perfectly possible there in the speed mode column (together with the usual "M" for mission and "C" for criuse speed settings) in the TF screen. This is exactly why this column is useful as a check against forgotten-full-speed TFs. Running the latest official patch here and observing the changes in the modes exactly as I described.ORIGINAL: Alfred

I think you are confusing two different screens. Alfred is describing the info shown on the Task Force Information Screen, which lists all ships in a given TF, and comes up when you click on that TF. That one shows m/c with a max speed and cruise speed, as the OP is asking about.
You are describing the Active Task Forces screen, which comes up when you click the TF button at the upper left of the game window. This lists all TFs, lists the Max and Cruise speeds of each, and also has a column for Mode, which will show M for Mission, but can also show C for TFs set to Cruise and F for TFs set to Full Speed.

Does chemkid have maps with hex sides? (I'm an old board gamer - I like hex sides).

Yes, Chemkid's Topo map, he has variants with hexes or dots for ocean hexes. I really like the look of his maps.

Yes, that's it. Wondered where Alfred's m/c came from. OP's "column speed mode" caught my eye first )ORIGINAL: Justus2
