saving a crippled ship

Post by George Patton »

It's possible to dock a ship in a size 1 harbor and dock her, to stop the floating?

You can always dock a TF in a size 1 port, but you can't DISBAND one. Send AR's if you have them, though; if the float damage is really bad, the ship could still sink in port.

I know that I cannot disband. I want only to know if it's possible to stop the flooding. I don't have AR in the area.

It's possible, but don't hold your breath. How bad is the ship?

Set the speed to cruise. Some people disagree with me but I believe that cruise speed helps.

Big arguments about that one!! [:D]

Get the weather to cooperate. Only move the ship if the weather is going to be clear.

As far as the AR - no one has really proven if an AR helps much in a size 1 port. In real life it would, but in the game no one really knows.

As far as stopping the flooding - sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. It depends on the die roll, and exp. of crew seems to help...

so, what do you suggest to do?
Move the ship to a closer, but size 1 port, or to a far, bit size 5 harbor?

What are the relative distances, and how fast is the ship at this point? Are you Allied with DC on, or not?

Distance from size 1 harbor is 2 hexes. From size 5 harbor is 7 hexes. Speed is 6 kt (moves 1/0)

Allied with DC?

Allied with DC = Allied player with Damage Control option on...

This is a tough decision. Last time i tried something like this, the KB showed up and sank the guy anyway...

Personally - i'd go full speed ahead to the size 5 harbor (although full speed ahead is the same as cruise, i think). Last time i had a sinking ship in a size 1 harbor, it wouldn't stop the flooding even with a good crew. You will be lucky to save the ship...

It's possible. I once had Hiryu make to a size 3 port with 97 sys damage and she survived. I got real lucky on that one. If you can get an AR to the port, that'll help. Same with a naval HQ.

As you are the IJN player, i can ALMOST guarantee that you will sink at a size 1 port. You might also sink at a size 5 port, even if you make it there (which you might not, esp if the weather is bad).

Good luck!!
