Kampfgruppe
Battlegroup
Panzer Strike
Typhoon of Steel
who is he?
Wow I never knew he did so many of these fine games. I didn't pay much attention to designers back in the 80's I was young and bought every wargame made from SSI. lol Just like you younguns do with matrixgames now. hahah
Heh remember in Kampgrupe how you could stack every unit into one hex. lol That got fixed fast in Battlegroup.
WE/I WANT 1:1 or something even 1:2 death animations in the KOIOS PANZER COMMAND SERIES don't forget Erik! and Floating Paratroopers We grew up with Minor, Marginal and Decisive victories why rock the boat with Marginal, Decisive and Legendary?
Of course, the world renowned Mr. Gary Grisby, who also had a little game called Steel Panthers come out soon after. Hey Gary, any word on your ACW game??? He is and has always been the best when it comes to historical accuracy. Thanks, Gary.
hehe I didn't mention Steel Panthers because I knew that would give it away too easily. But if you want to see where Steel Panthers came from those are the games he made before it. I am a big fan of Typhoon of Steel and of course Steel Panthers W@W or WW2 whichever it is lol. I even get confused. But, tell me why does Shrapnel have this game and SELLING it for Windows now? Did Gary sell the rights or what happened? Steel Panthers can easily be closest compared to Avalon Hills "Squad Leader" imho. It is always why I have liked it most of all the rest.

Mainly the maps look more like SL than Squad Battle maps.

RIP SSI.
Not only did they make fine wargames, but some really kick-butt RPGs. I'll agree Gary Grisby is very dedicated. I never played those games (I was into RPGs much more in the SSI days) but I appreciate the games that were inspired by Grisby's games.

Yes and they sold out to guess who...EA GAMES. SSI/SSG back then were like Matrixgames is today. Only Matrixgames pretty much sticks to wargames and strategy games only today. Back then SSI was doing those wonderful Gold Box series rpgs as well. It was the best of times to be a computer gamer that's for sure. NEW is always the best of times. Plus they were putting out games rapidly back then, kinda like Matrixgames has done this year. It's almost like being in the 80's again, but, I'm still wondering what they are going to release next year??? This is like a bumper crop year for them to release so many wargames in one year compared to others. Of course several have just been refurbishes and not really brand new creations. Anxious to see what next year brings.
