Shipyards and System Damage Bug

Post by Kull »

This one's pretty odd (Game is Patch 2, Hot fix 3). Open up the save file and click on Seattle (the same thing happens in San Francisco - and probably elsewhere - but it's easier to follow in Seattle). Open the attached file, and play as Allies vs. AI. After the game loads, go to Seattle:

- Port
- Show Ships under repair
(Note that "Warspite" has sys damage of 4 while "Colorado" has sys damage of 12)
- Select "Colorado"
- Change the priority from High to Critical and then click "Cancel Changes"
- Sys damage immediately drops from 12 to 4!
(If you start with Warspite, the same sequence of clicks will increase the sys damage from 4 to 12)

This is a pretty nasty bug. It took a bit of clicking to figure out what was going on, but here's how it works:

- Go to Pearl Harbor with an early game save in which a lot of ships are in pierside and/or shipyard repair mode.
- Click on the ship with the smallest amount of system damage (even 1)
- Change the priority (doesn't matter from what to what) and then click "Cancel Changes". The changes will cancel, but no damage values will alter.
- Use the "Next Ship in Port" button, and cycle to the next ship
- Change the priority (doesn't matter from what to what) and then click "Cancel Changes"
- System Damage will drop down to the level of the first ship (or increase if it was worse). Also, the repair mode will shift to match the previous ship (from shipyard to pierside or vice versa).
- Follow the same sequence, and you can change the system damage level (and repair mode) of every ship under repair in that port.

However, let's say you only changed one or two ships. Click "Exit" out of the Port window and then go back in again. Now pick one of the ships with bad system damage, change the priority, and cancel changes. Nothing will happen. Now begin cycling through the ships, changing and canceling priorities, and now the sys damage levels will change to the new, higher value.

What seems to happen is that "Cancel Changes" is retaining both the Repair mode AND System Damage level of the FIRST ship that had values changed & canceled, and it will use those values to overwrite all subsequent changes UNLESS you leave the Port Window.

Edit: I tried this on two different computers and got the same result. Can somebody reading the thread please test this out to confirm? Save your game first, obviously!

So if you do not click on "cancel changes", then nothing wrong happens?

Yes. For example, if you click from Pierside to Shipyard and want to return to Pierside, just keep clicking until it returns to that mode. And cancel changes has no effect the first time you do it, only if you click it again when viewing a different ship AND you haven't left the Port window.

Lucky I've never used the cancel changes button! Being as big as this is but only discovered now, I suspect that the cancel changes button is little-used by everybody.

I use the cancel change button so seldom, I am not even sure I ever have. I do save the game before doing extensive changes, just in case. [8D]

I am guessing that this may only be a "display" issue where the information on the screen is not being updated correctly. Have you confirmed that the "changed" values carry over to the next turn?

AE Tracker could show if this a real change to a ships values or is simply a displayed value not updating properly. I may try it tomorrow when I have a chance if nobody else has had a chance to confirm this. It is definitely something to look into.

I hadn't done that, but just did, and the changed values carry over into the next turn (both battleships in Seattle were changed to 12 sys, and both had 11 on the next turn).

Only works for system damage tried it in Pearl does not effect the other 2 at all. I know the original post says System damage but no one specified just that, always good to cover all bases in trouble shooting.
Favoritism is alive and well here.

Correct, it's only System Damage that is impacted - the others do not change. I was half hoping there was just something screwy with my save game, but unfortunately you have confirmed it. The bug is for real. [:(]
