Japanese Barges again

Post by fflaguna »

  • Only 2-hex range before they accumulate 5-15 sys damage per day due to lack of fuel.
  • They can be paired with other ships (xAKL, xAK, etc.) in order to prolong their damage-free travel.
  • You only get a few TFs worth of barges before you run out and have to wait 15 days to simulate "transporting" the ships to their next location.
  • They can carry 60 troops + 8 supply or they can carry 28 supply.

Everything looks good except for range. If they could even travel 1 extra hex for a max endurance of 120nm I would be ecstatic. Do you think anything should change?

Also, is there a way build more barges for the pool? They are very convenient for early-war Japan invasions.

You can match up Es and PBs with a landing craft TF (not sure barge TFs). Range depends on how many you add. I've gotten a total range of 13-14 (six out/six back), or you could use the whole range intending to refuel them from follow-up TFs, or just disband/abandon the barges. You will need AKs or APs in most cases since barges can't the carry vehicles or the larger guns that are part of many/most LCUs.

not for nothing I pull a few pt boats to "escort " my allied short leg barges.. then refull as needed.. same with the pt boats, I assign a dd to act as a "tender" and refuel them, or if they are at a non supported front line base will run fuel to them in cl or dd de...
another trick is to strach the length of your ships by settingthe destination base as the home port, of course this only works if you own the destination base

Definitely put a small escort with your barges. The out-of-fuel damage is devastating without them.
