Duke Nukem gonna hit the stores; May 3

Post by Josh »

Well, I sure hope this is not another hoax.

http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/arch ... -date.aspx

/quote

"Duke Nukem Forever has been in development for a little while. To give you a sense of just how much time has passed since it was first announced, Gran Turismo--a series known for its punctuality--saw releases 1-5 hit shelves in the intervening years. Skepticism turned to actual anticipation last September, when Gearbox unveiled Duke Nukem Forever in playable form at PAX. OK, so the game was really, really, real. A lingering question remained, however: When would we be able to finally take this thing home and play it?

As it turns out, we now know when that's happening.

"Somehow the guys at Game Informer magazine discovered Duke Nukem Forever's launch date before I did," joked Randy Pitchford, president of Gearbox Software and executive producer of Duke Nukem Forever. "But I cannot imagine any better video game news source team than Game Informer to reveal the moment of truth for the most inconceivable, incorrigible and inspiring turn around story in the history of the video game industry – the coming of Duke Nukem Forever on May 3, 2011."

“The moment fans all over the world have been waiting for is almost here,” says Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. “May 3, 2011 marks Duke’s return as he unleashes his brash and brutally honest wit on the world. His return is going to be epic and one that will make video gaming history!”

May 3 is the North American release date. May 6 is worldwide.

Good grief... There's one video game character who should have stayed buried.

Considering the [extra time in development = extra cost] formula being used lately I am scared to think what WiF is going to cost when released. May have to look into financing in order to afford it..................

Duke Nukem is one of the biggest and most recognizable brands in the interactive entertainment industry.

Are they kidding? While most of their target audience has probably heard of Duke Nukem as a historical curiousity, very few will view it as a relevant gaming 'brand' at all, let alone one of the biggest.

This one will soar or fall on its merits, not the name. The name will get it coverage in the gaming press, but if it's sub-par or just ordinary it will get hammered mercilessly.

Duke Nukem 3D was the very first game I imported from the US. Iirc from EB games, they had a webstore with international shipment in 1996 already.

Of course I had been excited about a successor, unfortunately it comes 10 years too late.

The forums are very well active and development is at full throttle. It was unofficially stated that there's a good chance for a 2011 release.

Agreed. I suspect Matrix may even break the $100 dollar barrier.(not counting shipping)

Do you mean Manhattan Project? I had just as much fun with that as I had with Duke Nukem II [8D]

[edit]
Those of you who have not ever played any of the Duke Nukem serie, I recommend you to head over GOG and start downloading. And while you're at it, get some Jagged Alliance to go with [:D]
You know what they say, don't you? About how us MechWarriors are the modern knights, how warfare has become civilized now that we have to abide by conventions and rules of war. Don't believe it.

As with some of the above, I would have been excited if this had happened about a decade ago.

I wish someone would make Duke Nukem IV (Manhattan Project being Duke Nukem 4).

No need to release an "updated" version of the game. The original works just fine.
Germany's unforgivable crime before the Second World War was her attempt to extricate her economy from the world's trading system and to create her own exchange mechanism which would deny world finance its opportunity to profit.
