Ships Refuse to be Withdrawn

Post by Chet Guiles »

This is a recurring problem.

Right now I have the Dolphin that is supposed to be withdrawn. I took her into PH (sher is assigned to the appropriate fleet) but even days after she is supposed to have been withdrawn, the "withdraw" button has not shown up on the ship screen. (I have been able to withdraw many other ships, usually British but this one is stubborn.) I am now sending her to SF and changing her to West Coast fleet command.

Is this a bug or am I doing something egregiously wrong?

Any suggestions would be appreciated. This is a great game, but I hate to see political points being bled away by something I can't do anything about. Grrr.

Thanks!

Hmm, that never happened to me. It doesn't matter what fleet it is assigned to, it should withdraw from Pearl with no problem.

Patch 2 expanded the list of ports for withdrawal as follows:

48. Gameplay Change: Allow ship withdrawals at any on map level-9 port and some
smaller ports with no enemy nearby. Ships can always be withdrawn from any offmap
port or from any TF that is currently off map. Ships that are not badly damaged
can be withdrawn from some on-map ports or from TFs in certain on-map regions.
For on map, ship may not be on fire, total damage may not exceed 99 and no
individual damage type (system, floatation, engine) may exceed 50. Ships may not
be withdrawn from any on-map location where the enemy has air superiority. The
intent is to prevent withdrawal as a method of saving a ship that stands a good chance
of being lost or further damaged. On map withdrawal ports are set based on the
historical exit locations for ships leaving the Pacific:
1. Any level 9 port.
2. National home ports of the United States, Canada, India, Australia, and New
Zealand (with no port level requirement)
3. Any level 7 or larger port on the US or Canadian West Coast.
4. Any level 7 or larger Indian port East of Ceylon (including Ceylon itself)
5. Any level 7 or larger port in South Eastern Australia, plus Perth.
6. Any level 7 or larger port in New Zealand.

Pearl Harbor is not a level 9 port. Nor is it either a national home port or situated on the West Coast.

There is also a bug in, I think, the first of the current beta patches. There are three betas "on the street" at the moment; the seocnd is the last reccoed by michaelm. The first had this withdraw bug, and the third he stated should not be used with any game you care about.

See here for the second beta, or play with the last official patch, which did not have the withdraw bug either.

As Alfed said, PH is not valid Withdrawal base, you need to get the sub to SF, for example.

Enroute to SF. I will try to install the latest official patch if I can get the guy I am playing with (who is nervous about applying the patch to an ongoing game) to go for that.

Thanks, all.

The last official patch to the executable (not the next database/OOB patch) is perfectly safe to apply to any on-going game. IMO, so is the second beta, although it does introduce some bad code for auto-convoys. It's doubtful many PBEM players use auto-convoy, however.
