Random withdrawals

Post by morvael »

What are the random withdrawals, happening all the time in the 44 Campaign? I mean, units are not marked as withdrawing and they disappear randomly, leaving holes in my lines. If I would know they would withdraw I would look for other units to fill the gap as in 41 Campaign. In the log it looks like this:

LIII Corps is scheduled to WITHDRAW on turn 0
LIII Corps WITHDRAWS (men 5020, guns 0, afv 0)

or

257th Infantry Division is scheduled to WITHDRAW on turn 0
79th Infantry Division is scheduled to WITHDRAW on turn 0
79th Infantry Division WITHDRAWS (men 10068, guns 138, afv 8)

I also wonder why 257th doesn't have this WITHDRAWS event, usually they come in pairs.

Save from German turn when LIII Corps was still on map with no indication of withdrawal (either in the withdrawal window, in the unit tooltip or in the highlight). The Corps is located in Chelm X 49 Y 75.

Save from Soviet AI turn 17 (after that turn the Corps was removed in German logistics phase for turn 18).

Save from German turn 18 when the Corps is missing, with attached log.

What is strange is that withdrawal window on turn 17 was saying that 14th Panzer Division will be withdrawn on turn 18, yet it wasn't highlighed red and without withdrawing status, yet the unit tooltip was saying it will withdraw (similar to the bug with 2nd Panzer Army). The division is located in Rumania, X 62 Y 105.

I guess maybe some id's are mismatched or something and wrong units withdraw in place of other units.

I think this a data problem of 1944 scenario. Somehow withdrawal data is not seeded. it will have quite bad consequences with just released path. Will ask to fix the data. Thanks for the report.

How bad are those consequences, shall I stay with .16 in this game?

This is not code dependent. I hope Trey will fix and post 1944 GC soon. Unfortunately it will require a restart.

...but now finally it seems like he cleared up old broken withdrawals and now units are properly highlighting - those that should (like 161st (Detachment A) Infantry Division and 129th Infantry Division). Wasn't it really a problem in the code?

Is this connected to the above problem?

What is funny is that the 3rd SS Panzer Division wasn't renamed. Perhaps some other unit was, but not this one.

RE: Random withdrawals

I had this before as well, I thought it was because of those mismatched withdrawals, which said one unit will withdraw but removed another. A new game should be played out to see if this bug would reappear.

I find it funny that a motorized brigade has to update to 43 panzergrenadier division before it can update to 44 and 45 TOEs, when it's already 1945. I had one update in March '45. Suddenly I got a very strong division...

edit:

This division that was renamed arrived on turn 42:
710th Static Division ARRIVED at 1,59 (men 10143, guns 95, afv 0)
and it probably updated to 45 Infantry Division on turn 45, then was renamed as they usually do. Somehow that was missing from the log.
