No messsage in log when launching a torpedo

Post by nukkxx5058 »

(sorry for the re-post but initial post was buried in an old thread and got invisible, thanks thewood1)

I'm surprised there is no info in the log when a torpedo is launched by my units (mk46 by a p3-orion in this case). I think we should know when a unit sends one, like it's the case with missiles. On the other other hand I am informed that an enemy decoy failed or succeeded on my torpedo, or if the torpedo hits its target. But before that I had no idea that a torpedo was launched, by who, which type, and where. This is rather weird and a pity because anxiously following a torpedo toward its target is part of the fun and adds a lot of drama to the game. In fact it's not entirely true because I knew that a torpedo was launched 'somewhere' because I heard the specific mp3 sound. But where ?

Also, as a second issue, it took me a long long time to figure out where the heck K-43 is because K-43's symbol was just buried under a second friendly mk-46 symbol and could't be easily seen (and of course I paused the game). I could not stress enough how a clickable log would be useful ;-)

It is also possible that I'm missing something ... if it's the case I'm sure you'll let me know ;-)

Thanks.

I think that you can adjust the popups to alert you when a Submarine (Goblin) contact is sited currently... which at least allows one to pay attention in that vicinity to torpedo launches.

But I don't see why the log informs us when our units launch a missile (which is perfectly normal IMO) but not when it's a torpedo. I hope this will be fixed in the future ... Unless there's a good reason for it but I can't see which one.

I checked again, it's not. Unlike for missiles, the message appears only after the torpedo was decoyed , missed or hit. But not at the time it's launched.
Here is an extract of the log file. (opening moves, after the Event: 'Hostilities Trigger' has been fired.
All units (helos, Orions, Nimrod, ships) are on ASW mission. It even won't say which unit did the killing. In this case there was only one unit around the target so I knew it's a helo and which one but sometimes it's ambiguous.

He was questioning about missile launch, which I don't think the log shows you. I do get a message on BOL torpedo launch, bot no other launches - something like "SSN X has completed it's BOL" (may not be exact - that's from memory).

I can understand how this could be a useful feature, I think the best way to go about it would be to post on the feature request thread.

oh yes, sorry. Dimitris was speaking for missiles, and he's right. I thought it was displayed for missiles. My wrong, it's not neither. But it would be a nice feature :-)
