Got it for 50p - found an old XP laptop to run it on.

Won - yay! - first time I've played, let alone won at Risk for, about 60 years. Suddenly my favourite game :)

Still have the original. Over the years my Germans turned greener.

That’s wild!

I can’t find them now but I got some Germans from an old 1971 SPI game that started life light gray and are now off white… lol

I also still have the Russian Campaign's half-sister game Fortress Europa. But this title always seemed more work compared to the easy-going RC.

I'm playing "Fire in the Lake" solo for the second time. I don't use bots, even if I have bougth the "Tru'ng" update. My first play solo had me trying to do the best with each faction (South Vietnam, USA, VietCong and North Vietnam) without having a clue about what I was doing. It was confirmed on BBG forum that this is the most historical way to play. It ended with a NVA victory so matbe they have a point.

My strategy for this second round is NOT TO DO what I did during the first one and see what happens. The historical feeling of the game is incredible, but it makes me feel that the result of the Vietnam War was, from the very beginning, in the lap of the gods.

i just decide two things to do for a unit, then throw a 6 sided die 1-3 do first thing, 4-6 do second. its the best i got for solo. very unprodictable but every turn is infact thought out, i was told it was a brain hack

That is very interesting Mainsworthy, because I was considering doing the same. Thanks for confirming that it is a good idea. :)

One dice for homeland one for battlefield at most for unequal forces conflicts at most. You don't make a conflict only for dice roll.

Today I have played:

Flight Unlimited 2

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2000 (came out 1999) - the last one where you can see the World Trade Center. And, bizarrely, the intro video actually says "There's the Empire State Building - you could crash into that. How cool."

Grand Theft Auto - the first top down one.

That is not bizarre, it actually happened with a B-25 on a foggy Saturday. There are videos and picture of it if you want to look up the aftermath.

I was thinking of it being bizarre in respect of what happened down the road a year later at the WTC on 9/11

---

Didn't they practice on Microsoft Flight Simulator?

I understand about the bizarre and I do believe that they did practice on Microsoft Flight Simulator.

Anyway, moving on I think I shall spend the next hour playing Campaigns on the Danube 1805-9

Here's a bit from Encyclopaedia Britannica 1911 on the set up:

This is one of my favourite games because of the command delay. You send an order and it takes 2 days to arrive, or maybe doesn't at all.
