I'm not a huge Dominions player, but I have 3, 4 and 5. It's a series that gets incrementally better each time. It's not like the Civ series where some things get better and some worse. Everything seems to get better, although not necessarily by huge leaps. I think the devs of the series are doing it right.

I already got Dominions 6. Then I got grounded by norovirus. It seems at least 5 has hexes, but 6 has replaced them with provinces like in AGEOD games. Larger size provinces are plains and smaller provinces are swamps and the like, which kinda makes sense when movement speed is 1 province per turn. Otherwise game seems like an alternative, more stat heavy, Age of Wonders. I'm not yet sure if I stick with this longer than I did with Age of Wonders 3, but it looks promising.
You know what they say, don't you? About how us MechWarriors are the modern knights, how warfare has become civilized now that we have to abide by conventions and rules of war. Don't believe it.

CK'3 expansion by Paradox all about pro-British myhts. Not about whole world legends. For HOİ'4 as playing Paraguay new DLC 'democratic Ayala' against communist Junta started civil war. Well it is about challenge..

After a LONG hiatus from Wargaming I bought War in the East 2 this weekend.

How is Vic3 compared to 2? I was turned off from the game over the "new and improved" combat system they proposed.

I presume there will be a short hiatus while you read the 500 page manual? (I gave up and went back to playing Advanced Tactics)

Are you by chance the McBride of some TOAW scenarios fame?

I've been playing thanks to the One page Guides. And plan to read the entire manual ... eventually.

Fame? Wouldn't call it that, but ya I used to make scenarios for TOAW.

You don't chase the enemy all over the map in Vic 3. You invade a state, the defender stays to fight to the end, not run into another state, over and over.

Victoria times a bit like Ceneviz ( Repubblica di Genova) during Ottoman modern day Katar&Saudi money against Russian empire. Era is still cool about conflicts and for modern ideology.

I agree that Dominions is only improving with time. I got Dominions 6 and it seems to be the best so far. Having said that, I lost my MP group so I can't "stress test" it like I did with Dom3 back in the day. My honest impression is that if you want to try one, then go for Dom6.

[I agree that Civilization had ups and downs. To this day my favourite is Civ4. Civ5 was a disappointment and Civ6 is a half-mess]

Victoria 3 is a big disappointment, to the point that many people are still playing Victoria 2. But all the newest games from Paradox (Crusader Kings 3, Victoria 3, Hearts of Iron 4, City Skylines II...) are crocks. A DLC for Crusader Kings II gave you, let's say, the opportunity to play with the Muslims or the Byzantine - no questions asked. Today we get DLC XXVII: the Courts of Northern Iberia! HoI4 is just a disgrace, and in Victoria 3 all the countries are the same. This is why people dread the day when Europa Universalis 5 will be announced.

Not having played Hearts of Iron IV, what is wrong with it?

I've put more time in Hearts of Iron IV than any computer game in 35 years except Steel Panthers. Probably the ability to text-mod the darn thing. But at some point, I did hit a brick wall, and that was it. Also, never bought a DLC and IMHO, I missed nothing. ;)

I'm tempted on Dom 6. And ATG, I just keep going back to despite the ton of "new" games out there.

Anyway, best wishes and God bless you all.

Yeah, I can't stop playing it either. I once in a while play something else, or take a break from playing, but I always come back to ATG.

I've Dominions 3.4 and 5 and didn't quite get into it, maybe different in multiplayer. HOI'4 is not that bad with Carabineros de Chile. Different nations different focus tree. I like CK'3 struggle mechanics Spain against Moors and Arab Kalifa against Persia later Seljuk occupation. I hope they continue to it. But it is easy game.

Risk II

Got it for 50p - found an old XP laptop to run it on.

Won - yay! - first time I've played, let alone won at Risk for, about 60 years. Suddenly my favourite game :)
