Carrier Battles - Mac/PC - ETA June

Post by bink »

Hi,

I have been following the porting of Carrier Battles 4 Guadalcanal to the Mac and PC since the Kickstarter, and it looks good - they have improved on the iPad game so that the AI can play either USA or Japan.

Some sites have been put up about it now the game is closer to release.

Steam

Looking forward to this!

Thanks for the tip. It reminds me of old AH Flattop. Will try that one out.

Anyone know of a a game similar to the old AH Bismarck on PC?

EUR 29,95 is just beyond my instabuy range for this game.
The mobile game is promising, but let’s see if the PC port is worth the asking price.

Hi Simulacra,

Game is out and price is lower as it has a launch discount

Not sure of EUR price, but $26.99 or GBP 21.41 (which is about EUR 24)

Bought the game, played ok on my desktop, but not that great on my laptop.

It was priced EUR 24,99 or something and with a 10% release discount at EUR 22,50

Although I do not often refund a game it somehow just missed the mark to keep it.
The gameplay is exactly the same as the IOS version, which is good.
On my desktop besides some minor issues it looked a lot nicer and than the iPad version.

IMO the title should have been released as Early Access sub EUR 20,-

The gameplay is nice, in a some way I would have enjoyed to continue playing it. The way CB4G captures naval combat is interesting, managing your carriers, when and where to recon, keep a strike package on deck? Etc. If you make a mistake you pay a big price.

I may revisit after more patching, the developer is an enthusiastic guy.

OTOH - at first I wasn’t happy with LnL Nations at War at release either and also choose to refund - later I picked up the core game again to give it another chance, I liked it much better the second go and bought the packs again.

If it didn't run well on you laptop, try playing without the sea/lighting effects. Also, does your laptop have an integrated graphics card? If it does, make sure the game plays on the "real" graphics card. I had that problem in beta testing.

This is a very good pc game I highly recommend ; it plays well on my desktop and laptop, and in past 3 years have played it many times on my ipad when traveling. AI will put up a good fight as USN or IJN [&o]

Thanks for your interest.

The laptop is an i5 with 8GB and integrated graphics card.

However the main issue was not performance - indeed switching off effects helped - but a problem with the controls.

There was a conflict between my touchpad and touch screen, using a mouse instead could only partially solve it, the situation was aggravated by some other control issues, at least some that were also present on the desktop.

Again the game is interesting, but for me it fell just a bit short for now.
It is an interesting game for sure - at a lower price I would have probably kept it.

Is this game single player only? Can it be used for two player any way, like hotseat?

Steam page says solitaire. No mention of MP or hotseat. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1163 ... adalcanal/

It is very likely to be added at a later stage as the iOS version has it. The dev seems intent on it from what I can tell.
