Auto fleets not working as well as before dlc

Post by rustyj »

In my last game since the dlc, my auto raid fleets were not chasing down AI fleets very well. I've had frequent instances of invasions happening with fleets sitting around doing nothing. In some cases just one system away. I don't know if this is something I am doing wrong eg maybe with the sensors being nerfed. I haven't been using monitors, but fairly high tech levels scanning. Has anyone else noticed this behaviour?

Bear in mind your policies were reset when the DLC came out. There may be settings you haven't changed back to how you like them, hence the reason it feels to not be working. Or it could be a bug. I wouldn't be too surprised.

I don't think any policy changes would impact here. Main factor is tactics and fleet settings. I had most invasions being completely ignored by my auto fleets. Prior to update, my auto fleets would efficiently appear at a target planet prior to an invasion. After the update this was not happening. Distance doesn't appear to be a factor. Fleet strength is certainly not a factor. I have started a new game and will investigate in more detail.

I'm not certain, but my sense was sensors and long range sensors either come later or are not as powerful as before? That could impact fleet reaction time to incoming attacks - if detected later. Just one idea.

Yeah, that was one thought I had. There was an advisement from the devs to build monitors because sensors had been nerfed. I ignored it, because I had so many planets with space stations throughout the map that I thought it wouldn't matter. I just realised tho that the Shakturi took out a lot of my space stations and this may have hampered the sensor screen. Mind you I don't think monitors would be the answer because they would be lot easier target. Maybe put them beside a SS. Needs to be a view that shows what areas of the map are within sensor range. BTW the Shakturi also targetted my constructors and it took me a long time to realise that was why my economy was tanking. So advisable to put bigger shields on constructors.

@rustyj - please provide a save and steps to reproduce showing fleets not performing as expected.

I noticed that when an incoming attack or invasion fleet is detected, a automated defense fleet one system over will often not bother to respond. Sometimes the fleet will sit on the opposite side of the planet and not be in position to intercept the troop transports before they invade.

Makes micromanagement essential.

Same for Attack fleets that go attacked by other Fleets from Empires your are nt at War at this moment. They just sit here and take fire.
Also Planetary Defenses and Spaceport Weapons dont bother to fire. Definietly not working.

There is! Cycle through the views in the bottom right, it's next to the nebula views.

Graphically it could be clearer. But it is a helpful view - I use it anytime I'm building a monitoring station.
