Recolored 2.5km/hex Stalingrad maps

Post by governato »

The original maps are great and I wanted to highlight some geographical features and make them more visible. So I recolored the large scale (2.5km/hex) maps. Differentiating some features helped my “situational awareness” and planning my moves. Now main roads and towns are red and rivers are different shades of blue, among other subtle changes. Below are the instructions on how to replace them.

GO TO THE MODS section for version 1.1 and future ones 4/22/2022
https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/vie ... &t=382816

This is the list of the maps for the 2.5km/hex scenarios and campaigns (sometimes the same map is used for more than one scenario).

Here is how they will look like.

  • Once the game installs each original map is in TWO folders.
The master maps are in Program Files (x86)/Matrix/Stalingrad/maps
    Copies are in Documents/My Games/Stalingrad/maps
Rename/move the maps te LIST ABOVE in each of the two folders (I just call them OLD.mapname)
Download the maps archive file (~100Mb) from the dropbox link. Unzip.
Drop the new maps in the folder Documents/My Games/Stalingrad/maps
Try with one of the large scale scenarios. The game should start with the new map and main roads should be red.
    Enjoy!

Thanks. I just installed them, and they do bring the terrain to life more.

The full set is on the top post, but here is one of the smallest maps if somebody wants to give it a quick try

These look great!

I have only the Desert War 1940-42 game and just wondering if these maps can be imported into that game?

Thanks,

Maps look great (the new colors really help)! A big improvement over the bland vanilla maps. Installation was easy.

you can import any graphic file in the DW or Stalingrad editor and then superimpose them over the scenario tile map "grid".
