Need clarification of rule 15.5.2 on Leader checks

Post by WingedIncubus »

Hi,

Could someone clarify this for me from Rule 15.5.2 on Leader checks, please?
Note that all HQs, regardless of level, can only provide leadership to units that directly report to it over 5 hexes. So an Axis unit reporting to the OKH must be within 5 hexes or is treated as being out of command range and in this case the notional command range (21.11.4) of a higher level HQ is ignored
Does that mean that if, for example X Corps reports to Y Army, which itself reports to OKH, I must hold each of their HQ within 5 hexes of each other to receive their Leadership check?

Thanks!

No, 5 Hexes is only from Corps HQ to Division. From Army to Corps it´s 15 Hexes and Army Group is 45 Hexes. All the divisions of the corps have to be in a range of 15 Hexes (Army) and 45 Hexes (Army Group) too. It´s not cumulativ.

A Div or Rgmt -----> to ANY HQ must be 5 hexes for leadership of said HQ. You can have better leadership if set up with chain of command with the respective HQ limits i.e. Div/Rgmt --to--> Corps 5 hexes, then Corps --to-- Army 15 Hexes, then Army --to-- Army Group 45 hexes etc etc. BUT if you attached the Div/rgmt to any HQ along the chain of command you must be within 5 hexes to get that leadership.

Thanks!

Currently reading the manual to return to WITE2 I have a urge to play. I want to try the GC but it's all so intimidating that it makes me hesitate to launch a game, even against the AI. My work schedule stops me from playing multi, so singleplayer is all I can do.

If you're mostly limited by time, I would highly recommend investing in the Steel Inferno expansion in order to play the excellent Race to the Caucasus scenario. It plays a lot like the Barbarossa portion of GC '41 with a much lower time commitment. (Just make sure to put drop tanks on those German transports, and use them A LOT :D )
