In-game tutorial videos

Post by Templer_12 »

War in the West offered in it's start menu a tutorial videos section.

That was quite useful and handy for the introduction and for getting started.
Can we also hope for such an offer/comfort in War in the East 2?

No, we decided not to do tutorial videos this time around because compared to when WITE/WITW released there are now a lot of great streamers/youtubers already creating better tutorial and gameplay explainer videos than what we could likely do. I'd suggest our own Twitch/Youtube channels and the folks like XTRG.

Our own efforts went into the documentation and the game.

Hello Erik,

when will the YouTuber be allowed to publish in game videos? 25th of March, or before that date?

I am planing to buy this promising game, but I have nearly no idea how to play it. I had watched some WITE1 videos and the XTRG WITE2 video.

I did take a look into YouTube but I could not find much WITE2 videos? Only the one in which XTRG has showed the new game.

In one week the game is released in full and there is nothing preventing people from uploading videos then. I guarantee there will be at least a dozen or so that will come out on launch day or shortly after.

As soon as we have the gold master in the store, we'll also send it over to the various youtubers and encourage them to cover it as much as they'd like. The one page guides and manual are your best place to start otherwise. This forum is also a good place to ask for help. If none of the various youtubers do it, and I expect they definitely will, then I'll also make time to do a short tutorial video.

I would love to see right away a short video, maybe 30 minutes, that introduces the (most important) changes/innovations.

Disappointing in my opinion is that there are only so few Wite2 videos on YouTube or twitch.

I am not sure if I will buy this game. I have to watch some gameplay and review videos and after that I will make a decision.
My impression is that this is a fantastic game, but I am still not sure.

There wouldn't be many videos yet as it has not been released. After release will be another story.

XTRG just did another stream on Thursday. I'm too busy with gold master candidate testing to fit anything in, but if you read the latest manual preview I posted in the pinned thread above, it covers all the key changes.

While I share your concern, I nonetheless bought it as soon as it became available.

Hex-based war gamming has been a passion for me since the mid-70s (my first such game was in 1969 at age 14, but I became hooked around '75 or '76), and I feel that Gary & Co. have that same passion, but as creators, not just a participant. Although they may make many more games, I believe they put their all into this game (as though it were their last .. their legacy even). While there is no harm for you to wait, I'm ready to play as soon as I have access to it. No one will be more disappointed than I if this game turns out to be less than stellar. For my preference that means a challenging (or at least "competent" AI).

We'll see, but I am quite trusting that this will be one of my all-time favorite hex-based games. Maybe even "the" all time favorite hex-based game. We'll see (but none too damn soon for this impatient old gamer [:@]!).

After reading some parts of the Manual (due to language barrier I am a slow reader) and watching many Wite1 and Witw videos, I think this could be a very fantastic game.
I never saw so much love put into a Manual and game. As far as I understand this looks very promising.

What I do not understand is the way it is advertised.
I would assume that the best way to promote the game would be to invite as many as possible of the wargaming YouTubers to play and show this game in the week before release?
But I could be wrong about that because I never have published a game.

There should be more videos when game is actually published and video bloggers get acquainted with complex game like WitE 2.

OTOH, these sort of games have lot less suitability for videos, since action is slow.

I will be doing a full playthrough and tutorial on Twitch and YouTube starting on Thursday [Edit: Today - Tuesday 3/23] for anyone interested. I've already done the same for War in the Pacific, War in the East and am currently doing War in the West. You can find them here: Strategy Gaming Dojo
