Soviet AA TOEs

Post by Wiedrock »

Sources:
- Companion to the Red Army, Zaloga and Ness, 2009, pages 126ff

Flak SU's TOEs and their evolution/appearance of the Ground Forces, according to the source should look about like this. Namings are just chosen to highlight contents for development, mixed/heavy/light/medium may be used or may not be.

Then there were many, many Flak Divisions being created for the ground forces from ~late summer 1942 onwards. Those comprised multiple light and one heavy regiment. The Source provides the complete evolution and it should look like this when applied in game and separating the Regiments (added +1xSupport each to simulate Divisional HQ and other Divisional manpower additions):

Found some AA-Unit lists, listing the TOE numbers and the available/needed Men/Guns. Found several more of individual units but but of those found, their TOE numbers are in this overviews listed.
I don't know yet, if AA TOEs can be distinguished by their numbers between the "branches" ("PVO Strany" vs "PVO Voisk" vs ...).

СЗФ (Northwestern District) 01.12.1941
40th Army 06.04.1942
434th (rear battalion(?)) 25.07.1942

Men, 75/85mm, 37mm, 12,7mm, 7,62mm
050/40, 1503Men, 24x75/85mm, 8x37mm, 12x12,7mm, 6x7,62mm, searchlights (16+16)
050/41, 705, 12, 4, 6, 3

01.12.1941:
Shtat No. 050/41, 672Men, 12x75/85mm, 4x37mm, 6x12,7mm, 3x7,62mm
Shtat No. 050/41 (бев прокроты = reduced?), 485Men, 12x75/85mm, 4x37mm, 6x12,7mm, 3x7,62mm
Shtat No. 050/42, 537Men, 8x75/85mm, 4x37mm, 6x12,7mm, 2x7,62mm
Shtat No. 050/934, 110Men, 4x75/85mm, 0x37mm, 0x12,7mm, 0x7,62mm
Note: I assume the "large ones" having weirdly many people may contain searchlights/spotter-teams of kinds or it has to do with Truck availability vs Horses (Horses usually need more men). (too lazy right now ansering this questions myself by further investigating ^^)

06.04.1942:
Shtat No. 050/102, 164Men, 0xAA, has horses + radios
Shtat No. 050/111, 484Men, 12x75/85mm, 4x37mm, 6x12,7mm, 3x7,62mm
Shtat No. 050/113, 380Men, 12x75/85mm, 0x37mm, 0x12,7mm, 3x7,62mm
Shtat No. 050/119, 291Men, 0x75/85mm, 12x37mm, 0x12,7mm, 0x7,62mm
Shtat No. 04/154, 80Men, 0x75/85mm, 6x37mm, 0x12,7mm, 0x7,62mm

25.07.1942
Shtat No. 050/110, 656Men, 12x75/85mm, 4x25/37mm, unclear to me: 9x12,7mm or/and 7,62mm

This Source (should be Nafziger Collection) gives the Anti-Air Division's Regiments, I've seen the here seen surplus of 12.7mm AAMGs in other sources too. But it has several math errors.
The Medium Regiment has here 16HMG vs 4 in the initial source and way more Manpower (therefore?).
It sums up 3 Batteries of 4 Light AA Guns to 15 Guns.
It sums up 3 Light Regiments of 3 Batteries of 4 Guns (3x3x4=36) to 48 Guns.
It mixes up "Light" and "Medium" namings ...maybe that's correct/historc.

I. In order to strengthen the firepower of the anti-aircraft artillery divisions of the WGK
at the fronts, in the composition of all 37 mm batteries of anti-aircraft artillery regiments of these
Divisions additionally include two 37 mm anti-aircraft guns.

In total, the division has 72 - 37 mm anti-aircraft guns. Number of 85 mm anti-aircraft guns
and DShK machine guns leave in the existing norm.

To change the order of the NGO I2 0014, the number of divisions is set by 2181 people.
Found the order which made the increase from 4→6 37mm Guns per battery in April 1944 (for the Regiments inside the AA Divisions), that's also properly mentioned/noted in the Companion to the Red Army.

German intel showing the Divisional and the Light AA-Regiment as mentioned in the Companion to the Red Army (CttRA).
The only real difference is that the Medium Regiment has 16xDShk, which is also mentioned in other sources, while the CttRA keeps 1xDShk per 4x85mm (as TOE'd in the initial post) → while this source gives a whole DShK Company with 16x.

But also in other instances the 16xDShK per 16x[any Gun] being a broader applied thing to AA Divisions.
So one could add an increase of DShK from 4→16 in the last TOE of the initial Post in ~10/1943 (or so). Since now we know that there are 25k additional DShK missing that were there this makes more sense anyways.
There is the possibility that CttRA (or the Source they used) mixed "1xDShK battery/platoon" with "1xDShK" (or so...), not seen 1xDShK being used/lsited anywhere on its own elsewhere yet (the separate Heavy AA Battalion with 24 to 6 indicates the same ratio 4:1 tho).

Alternatively there must have been some "reinforced" version of the AA Division, which seems to have increased DShK (even more then just 1:1 with the 85mm).

Found this order, this is basically the "42 Ind. AA Regiment" posted initially. It just gives 20xDShK instead of 8+12=20 AAMGs.
