Turn 12 (16 December 1941): Soviets attacks

Soviets launch a series of attack along our right flank. In some sectors our depleted regiments are thrown back. The line is looking ragged.

Model and 3rd Panzer Group elements start the trek to Rzhev. The city is to well defended to take down with current forces and time is
running out. A Panzer regiment makes it to the eastern edge of the playable map (and takes out a depot).

Turn 13: Ragged Right Flank (23 Dec 1941)

The Soviets continue with their minor attacks along our long right flank. It may not look like it but the pressure is really mounting east of
Tula. East of Kursk our forces continue the dance with the enemy. No one has the strength for a sustained offensive. Rzhev still holds out
and is being air supplied.

We are running at 30% supplies overall. This is the problem.

Models forces (2nd Panzer Group) are in place for the attack on Rzhev. The other forces were just to weak to take the city with his
help. This is because I neglected rail repair in this sector.

Turn 14: Fall of the Meat Grinder (30 Dec 1941)

Soviets attacks east of Moscow and Tula continue.
Image

Model and 2nd Panzer Group launch the attack on Rzhev, the final on map objective. It falls (on the last turn). The rest of the pocketed Soviet troops are also cleaned up.

This is the last turn end positions for the Germans.

Turn 15: The End - Axis Minor Victory.

End: German perspective

End: Soviet perspective

Somewhat disappointed that I only got a Minor Victory. This is because I bypassed a lot of the minor objectives in favour of securing Moscow. This gave my opponent a lot of points for holding them turn to turn. Rzhev is a stand out, 1300 points total compared to 1600 total for Moscow. I guess if it had fallen earlier, the 16th and 9th Army might have been able to march all the way to Vladimir.
Casualty points seem to fall in favour of my Soviet opponent ~620 to ~450 even though I managed to get 1:4 losses in men in my favour during an offensive during a Severe Winter. This did indirectly lead to the fall of Moscow and the points received there.
