Situation Report: Dec 31st 1942 Turn 7
AG North
Fighting along the Northern Front continues we destroyed a enemy unit in the Novgorod area, and made small gains but overall Soviet defences remain hard to break given there numbers here.
The reality is no matter how many enemy units I destroy they just send more to replace them, unless Leningrad is captured which will free up troops, which seems unlikely at this stage the enemy will just mass at a weak spot in my line and break through and I wont be able to stop it.
On 16th Armee Front we also make small gains, slowly squeezing out the defenders, creating small pockets and destroying couple of enemy units, but its taking time and we are not destroying the enemy quick enough, I have managed to make some gaps in there lines but no sooner this happens they rush units to plug the holes.

Again heavy fighting along the front as both 9th and 3rd Pz Armee's battle to clear the Soviets and straighten line, finally destroyed the pocket but its exhausted the troops so I will need to rest some of them before I make another major push.
Surprisingly I am only about 80 miles from Moscow.
Once again South of the Moscow Front both 2nd and 2nd Pz Armee's took another battering, Orel remains in danger of being captured, if I lose the city its just about a given that the the initiative will change I only have a 14 point lead, its vital that the salient forces are pushed back so I can send troops South to reinforce the lines.

Here for now the Soviets have seen to have halted attacks against my lines, this is some good news, gives me a chance for my troops to rest and recover, I see 3 Tank Corps and 2 Mech Corps just sitting back at the rear of the lines biding there time. along with numbers of Inf units, this looks ominous.
Some heartening news for our beleaguered troops on the Stalingrad Front, our forces finally destroyed the Mech Corps while a lone Guards Tank Corps overextended its advance on our flank and has been encircled.Still the numbers facing both 6th and 4th Pz Armee's are daunting.

1st Pz Armee remains in danger of being cutoff from enemy forces to the North but we are now starting redeploy back to the Kuban peninsula,to a more defensive line behind the river itself hopefully we can hold there.
Along The Black Sea Coast 17th Armee continues to make ground and cut off enemy units, still I have abandoned any hope of sweeping along the coast in the hope of forcing the enemy to stop its offensive, the plan take what territory I can get and support 1st Pz Armee's flank.

Losses are surprisingly good for us specially in the air war, the enemy took a lots casualties in the ground battles and took a lot of POW's

I have less than 2000 operational AFV's and Soviets have over 8500, also double the manpower still, that tells the story,

The Allies take a calculated risk as Montgomery orders The 2nd NZ Division to try and flank our defensive line but fails to give any Armoured support to his Infantry, this move without Armour is detected and 21st Panzer Division and the Italian 101st Trieste Infantry DIV move to cut off and encircle the Allied unit. The enemy Inf now isolated face the real risk of destruction if they cannot find a way to get back to there own lines. Southern Tunisia
Realising there desperate position The French Inf try to breakout and head towards Sidd Bouzid, but the unit cannot make much headway in that direction owing to lack of fuel, supplies and most importantly water, virtually surrounded by two Armoured formations, The Italian 131st Centauro Armoured and 15th Panzer, finally understanding the severity of The French Div's situation, Allied Inf push forward towards Kasserine, Sbeitla and Pichon in the hope of creating a corridor for the French to escape.
Aerial reconnaissance detects the Allied movement and The 90th Lite Afrika Mot Division moves to counter and check this advance.
The Allies also attempt to push further South at Tozeur, all to know avail as there probes of my lines yield no weaknesses.
Northern Tunisia
Up here not much happening as The Allies seem unable or unwilling to make any attempts to rescue the two trapped units here also, no land clashes some movement of there troops but I have the upper hand at this time as they don't seem to be able to mass enough forces to inflict any real harm on my dug in troops.

Situation Report : Jan 5th 1943 Turn 9
Supply is still managing to reach North Africa from the European mainland thanks the our Axis Air Forces and we seem to be inflicting losses on the enemies own supply lines.
The Allies may not have complete control of the sea lanes, but they certainly dominate the air on land.
This week was very quiet in respect to ground attacks but the enemy launched repeated air attacks on our troops and supply lines, despite the bad weather there were repeated saturation bombings in the North of the country as well as multiple air strikes on my fortified positions in Libya.

18th Armee continues to push North towards Volkhov, don't know if the Security DIV will be able to hold the ground gained, on either flank there are 2 Guards Corps, no Panzer DIV's available as yet to help support the infantry as we battle to completely cut off Leningrad's supply lines. Still even if I can completely isolate the City its fortification are huge, it maybe a case of just cutting them off and hoping they wither and die.East of the Port City I am hoping to capture Tikhvin to doubly make certain no supply gets through, this is also proving a hard task as The Soviets refuse to give up the ground without a fight.
There railing more and more reinforcements into area in a effort to halt my advance.
South of Leningrad the battles at Demyansk and Velikie Luki continues, 16th Armee on one side and 9th Armee on the other, battle to drive the Soviets back or hopefully trap the huge forces opposing us,Intel reports say at least 8 Guards units have been deployed in this sector alone, together with several regular Tank and Mech Corps supported by Infantry greatly outnumber us on the battlefield.
Still through superior tactics and sheer determination our forces continue to take valuable ground.

While the fight here on the Eastern Front is bloody with no let up for the soldiers of The Ostheer, there is still some moments when the troops listen to Radio Berlin as it broadcasts to the brave men on the front line in Russia the news that there comrades fighting on The North African Front have halted the Allied Offensive in Tunisia and Libya and are inflicting heavy losses on the enemy. This welcome news lifts the morale of the troops.
After a brief respite for the troops after destroying the pocket the Soviets once again reinforce there lines, more Guards and Tank units are thrown against 9th, 3rd Pz and 4th Armee's, 9th Armee manages to trap two more enemy units and now the fight begins if the pocket can be held.
Once again both 2nd Armee and 2nd Pz Armee manage to stave off a collapse and certain destruction, both Armee's are facing 2 Fronts and at least 4 to 6 Armys, including a Guards Army which Intel believes could be 2nd, 4th or 10th Guards.
The situation here is dire as the enemy has at least 4 Tank and 1 Mech Corps on the front line with another 2 Tank and 2 Mech Corps in reserve one of which is a Guards Mech Corps.
With these kind of numbers arrayed against me I am surprised both Armee's have held this long. These are no longer the 1941 units that would normally be just flicked aside when they got in the way.

Soviet Armour is now moving forward towards the Italian line, out in this open terrain I cant see them holding the enemy, The German Infantry supporting them is to few in numbers, I have little choice but to pull back and hope I can slow the Soviet advance with a delaying action till more forces can arrive. To make matters worse, news that Italian troops will be leaving Russia in the coming weeks could spell disaster along this sector of the front.
Some better news in the Stalingrad area the Guards Tank unit was destroyed, attacks against my withdrawing forces have reduced and we continue to fall back in steady order, however the reports of enemy troops moving through the Kalmykia region troubles me as my Armee's may yet be cut off and encircled once again. I cannot speed up my withdrawal as that would leave some troops vulnerable to encirclement, so the race is on to see who will reach The Don River first.

The situation here is critical with 1st Pz Armee spread thin and enemy troops threatening both flanks, Red Army troops infiltrating through the Mountains and a big push by 5 divisions also a Guards Cav Corps threatens the Armee HQ.
Hopefully time and the weather will helps us to make a stand at Nevinnomyssky and cherkessy and the River, I launch 1 more scouting in force with 2 Panzer regiments towards Grozny hope to draw off troops, while the rest of the Armee falls back.
On The Black Sea coastline 17th Armee still makes steady ground surprising the enemy, a number of Mountain units manage to reach the sea and cutoff several Red Army units, with a bit of luck we can capture a couple of ports that can resupply us from sea if there is a major collapse and the Armee is trapped here.

The war in the Air seems to favour the enemy even though we destroy over 7 times as many of there planes, the enemy has the planes and the pilots to replace there losses while we do not.
On the ground the enemy losses are double our figures in terms of manpower and 6 to 1 AFV's but again they seem to be able to sustain the huge losses and replace them just as easily, attrition is in the Soviets favour.
In one of the many battles across front where our forces were successful, reports have come in that a Soviet Air Force general was killed when his HQ was attacked and over run by one of our units.

As expected a counterattack by Soviet forces in the Volkhov sector forces back my troops , but we have success South where we capture Kirishi and take more ground in the harsh weather.
But the big news is Kolpino has fallen under sustained attacks , 18th Armee inches ever closer to cutting off Leningrad completely.
This also frees up my troops for use to launch further attacks here.
On the 16th Armee Front the battle continues as both sides battle to control the strategic rail link running from Velikie Luki to Bologe, Panzer units from the 16th link up with 9th Armee troops and 2 Red Army Units are cut off one of which is a Guards Corps. While this fight rages, in the North the battle for The Valdai Hills intensifies as General Kempf's Armee HQ arrives to take charge of all forces in this sector.
