Willing to give it a new try

Post by nukkxx5058 »

Hi, I purchased the game at release date and had mixed feelings partly due to the complexity and initial bugs. But I always thought the game has a great potential. So I'm really willing to give it a new try but I'm facing many issues.
I hope you guys will be able to help me.

First, I don't know how I can ensure I have the up-to-date version of both the game and database and also images and other possible new features (sounds ? other ?)

I am currently trying the first tutorial and I already have a problem. When I load the scenario and I click on the oob a window opens with a list of assets but when i click on individual elements, I don't see the info on the vertical bar on the right of the main screen. I can see some info and a picture of the plane flashing a fraction of second before disappearing. Any idea ?

I will probably have many more questions soon. Hope I will find help here.

I am also watching tutorial videos on you tube so that I'm not too much of a pain on the forum :-)

Thank you in advance.

knowledge only comes from asking, so don't be a stranger and ask away, asking then learning is half the battle, playing and getting experience is the other half [;)]

Well, in fact I will start to uninstall and reinstall the game to be sure I have the right install.
Will let you know if I still have issues.
Should I install 1.09 directly or first 1.0 followed by 1.09 ?

most question and answer can be found here tt.asp?forumid=1279

is it the site version or steam?

tm.asp?m=3702673

as steam does the updated for you on auto, if you bought it from here and wish to, use the link above and get a steam key, or stay with the version you have and do a auto update check etc.

i'm just General support tbh, where as the guys here know the game inside out and way better than me, but will be more than happy to help out, good luck

It's not (yet) on Steam. I'm considering transferring it. Thanks.
Does steam also update images databases (and others like symbols, etc.) ?

good question, one i'm sorry i don't know the answer for, but the forum mods for this section will and will reply, ask away, all will be revealed and adds to a healthy growing forum with many active members, good luck and enjoy the game[;)]

tm.asp?m=3607586

edited again,

regarding the images data base,

tm.asp?m=3441939

still can't find the answer for the steam version i'm sorry to say, but will keep looking

OK, I decided to transfer it to STEAM.Done ! I'm currently instaling on STEAM which is downloading 3.7 GB ... So I guess it might include images DB ?

I'd suggest using Steam (as you are doing) for ease of updates, adding in the (separate downloads) community scenarios and database images - neither are essential, but the first gives a wide range of additional scenarios (including some good ones to get going), and the second adds to immersion (imho)and I think you previously expressed a liking for visuals.

There are additional files you could use (for example the excellent SeaHag for background sounds and reading the message log), but actually given your experience I'd suggest getting up and running with the game is the priority rather than other things - great, but takes a bit of tinkering to get working the way you want.

The Mega-FAQ is incredibly useful, and using the forum search before posting questions is always a good idea (chances are someone has asked most things already).

In terms of game complexity, the original tutorials and Uncle Mark's tutorials (a new set) are a great place to start... actually the first air tutorial can be replayed almost endlessly to check out what-if ideas you might have.

Also, spend some time with Baloogan's videos on youtube to get a sense of how the interface works in real life (though some are with earlier versions so it might not look identical).

And then, doing a forum search for something like beginner scenarios will point you in the right direction.

I find the main issue I have with the game, though, is it turns out (and why should I be surprised) that commanding a Naval Taskforce with air, sea and under-the-sea assets with limited intel against an enemy is actually a little complicated !

Best wishes and hope you get going this time,
Chris
