Raid on Kismayo

Post by LittleDogmaOne »

Tuesday, 13 May 2013 2300 hours
Operation Iron Hammer

Reliable intelligence has determined that an al-Qaeda courier is bringing information coordinating further terrorist actions in sub-Saharan Africa to the leadership council of the Somali al-Shabaab faction. The National Command Authority has committed elements of the Kearsarge Amphibious Ready Group to act on this information if it turns out to be credible. Kearsarge and a lone escort, the Littoral Combat Ship USS Independence, have steamed ahead of the rest of their group in order to conduct this covert mission off the coast of the southern Somali city of Kismayo.

Their mission: to acquire and observe the courier in the chance that he will lead them to any al-Shabaab leadership elements and if so, to launch a direct action effort to capture them.

"Good morning, Captain. Nav puts us just a little south of the equator, 0200 local time. All departments report manned and ready for action.

SEAL Team 2 dropped a recon element, Coyote 4, to stake out the Jilib Air Strip and make confirmation of the courier's arrival. They report a contingent of militants with vehicles are already on scene. Covert elements have been able to place a GPS tracker in the courier's aircraft and place it just north of the Somali/Ethiopian border, heading south.

We're still not certain where the meet will be held, but it is suspected that several ranking al-Shabaab clan chiefs will be there. Our only lead to their location is this courier. We'll need to follow him but remain discrete enough not to be spotted. These guys are likely to spook at the smallest sign of trouble.

Once we've determined the meet site we've got Bravo company prepped to conduct a raid. The ACE's got 4 Ospreys and pair of Harriers & Cobras on stand-by for transport and air cover. Gabby has a Fire Scout ready to roll, as well.

CentCom wants us out by sunrise, around 6am local time, and a full report as soon as possible."

At approximately 2300 hours, LCS 2 Independence launched MQ-8B Fire Scout Paint #1 to designated Eagle Eye to observe Jilib airstrip via FLIR (NO 25'18" - E42'41'09)as Coyote 4 (US Navy Seal) conduct a covert surveillance on Jilib airstip as well. Task Force Maverick detected ET-WKP (suspected civilian aircraft)heading toward Jilib airstrip. AV-8B Pine Tree 1/Pine Tree 2 and AH-1Z Super Cobra Snake 1/Snake 2 scrambled, and enters designated Turtle Shell (At approximately 16 nautical miles away from the Somalia Coast, and then loitering in Z pattern/waiting for "Go" code.

At approximately 0310 hours, Coyote 4 reports that ET-WKP has landed at Jilib Airstrip, and later reports the courier was on that aircraft (ET-WKP) At approximately 0320 hours, Coyote 4 reports the courier/car convoy (designed Mobile 29058) departed from Jilib airstrip. Coyote 4 declared mission completed, and preparing to leave from the area of operation. MQ-8B Fire Scout tracking Mobile 29058 as it continues going south toward Jamaame. MQ-8B Fire Scout Paint #1 observes that Mobile 29058 stopped near by Jamaame, and detected numerous technical vehicles and other hostile targets as well. Meeting in one building is being under observation via MQ-8B Fire Scout Paint # 1

At approximately 0422 hours, AV-8B Pine Tree 1 and Pine Tree 2 received a "Go" code, and then heading toward designated Iron Hammer. Later, at approximately 0426 hours, AV-8B Pine Tree 1 reports "WTF" moments! (Two GBU-12D/B Paveway II LBG (MK-82)has malfunctioned, and both failed to detonate! AV-8B Pine Tree 1 declared "Winchester!" and return to the home plate. At approximately 0429:41 hours, AV-8B Pine Tree 2 reports that Two GBU-12D/B successfully hit the targets: Al Shabaab Technicals are toast! Meeting in one building was under attack as well.

In next 10 minutes later, AH-1Z Super Cobra Snake 1 and Snake 2 arrives on the scene, and eliminated mobile AAA with one of their Hellfire missiles. One of the building(s)(where the meeting was being held) received a heavy structure damage The 26th MEU 1/2/3 Plt/B coy US Marines is preparing to mount up via MV-22Bs, and are about heading toward their own designated LZ: LZ Pirate, LZ Dingo, LZ Spartan, and LZ Tarzan around the building. One hour and 20 minutes left to go. (to be continue)

P.S. I had to stop this mission because MV-22B refused to leave from LCS 2 Independence. I don't know how to move/ferry 1/2/3 Plt/B Coy US Marines to their designated LZ. Help!
