Source Request Yom Kippur War

Post by vettim89 »

Hello,

I am working on a scenario that may progress into several scenarios built around the 1973 Yom Kippur/Ramadan/October War.

I have some good sources for the Israeli (thank you Baloogan) but really cannot find anything for the Egyptians beyond just raw numbers (200 Mig 21 150 Mig 17 etc)

Does anyone know a good source to fill in the Arab side? I would prefer an online source but would be willing to pony up for a book if I knew in advance it was a good source.

Thanks in advance

I know I've seen something about the EAF, but here's a good source for the Israeli air OOB .. http://www.aeroflight.co.uk/waf/aa-mideast/israel/af/israel-af-orbats.htm

Also see this CIA assessment of the war ... https://www.cia.gov/library/readingroom/docs/LOC-HAK-480-3-1-4.pdf

Here's the CIA Arab-Israeli Handbook for 1975, which has some items relating to '73. https://www.cia.gov/library/readingroom/docs/1975-09-01-A.pdf

Primarch,

Thanks for these reference. I've added it to the CMANO/CMO unofficial Dropbox reference library.

I think that the ultimate sources for the arab side would be the Arab Migs series by Tom Cooper et al.
Volumes 5 and 6 covers the Yom Kippur War.

And the book from Lon Nordeen about the Egypiatn Air Force "Phoenix over the Nile"
