release date

Post by Marco70 »

Alvaro, when do you think WP Pacific will be launched?
In the announcement twitch session, it sounded like the first quarter of this year. Maybe i´m wrong.
On the WITE2 forum they have started giving more insight and seem to be closer to a release date. Not as much is happening on this forum, so I think we are further away.
I am so excited to play the game. Can you please write something about the status?

Yes indeed. [:)] I second the motion for an update. Nothing needs to be written in stone. Just some kind of idea how "things are going".

Thanks.

Currently Beta is going on. The testers are having a blast playing.

Right now the Japanese A.I. is in good shape.
The Allied A.I. is a work in progress. It is muuuuuuuuch harder to write the Allied A.I. for the Pacific.

it is far harder to write A.I. for the Pacific than Europe.

The game is just as deep as Europe but in a different way with different strategic and operational decision points.
As WPE it is based on victory points and the Japanese have to grab and hold as many as possible before August 1945 to win.

As the Allies you start off pretty crippled and have to make some serious decisions on what to build and what to protect.

What is planned are these scenarios.
Pacific 1941 - Starts at Pearl Harbor
Pacific 1942 - Starts after Japan has taken all it's initial invasions... haven't decided the date year.
Solomons 1942-1943 - A WPE scale map of just the Solomons.
Invasion of Wake Island - What if the US carriers showed up?
Midway 1942 - recreating this battle.

If I have time.
China Campaign 1937-1941
Smaller scenarios like Coral Sea that span just 10 turns using the Solomons map.

###Some comments by the beta testers.

Dream Come True

Post by Don60420 » 16 Jan 2021 14:55
My war gaming goes back half a century to 1970. War Plan and War Plan Pacific remind me of classic SPI board games like War in Europe and USN. Back then I dreamed of computer versions. At that time I was an undergrad at the U of I and would sneak over to the Foreign Language Building basement to play Empire on a Plato terminal until I was tossed off. I understood that computer technology would have to develop quite a bit until my dream was realized. War Plan and War Plan Pacific are the best incarnations of that dream that I have yet encountered. True grognard delights but also accessible to new players.

Overwhelmed (In a good way)

The War in the Pacific always blows my mind with the distances involved and so much empty ocean. I look at the beautiful map and my initial reaction is . What the F**@ do I do?! Where do I start?

You can lose a fleet in one turn that took decades to build. These little islands in the middle of nowhere are filled with possibilities yet they are so damn small.

Land forces are few and far between (except for Manchuria)

The Carrier is king, the battleship a thing of the past in the Pacific.

Well done Al. So far it's a winner if I ever saw one.

### A question I asked of the beta testers. Are the naval battles fun and exciting?

jwarrenw13 - I say yes. Even playing hotseat against myself to get an idea of what is going on, I found the first time I sent the US carriers against the Japanese carriers, it was exciting, with full knowledge of what both sides had. Now playing a game against Axis AI and a concurrent game against Allied AI, and there is definitely excitement and the unknown in part because you don't usually have full intelligence and you are not even positive you will engage if you are seeking a surface battle.
Top

ncc1701e - The invisible fleets are stressing. But this is exciting yes. Carrier battles are good now. Uniformizes the battle reports and we will have a gem.
Top

MorningDew - I agree - only playing hotseat and AI as I wait for my key - can only imagine what the invisible fleets will do against a human

The testers are doing a great job of finding bugs and making recommendations. Some of these are being retrofitted back to Europe. There are some multiplayer games going on as well. If I had to make an educated guess WarPlan Pacific will be a deeper game than WarPlan Europe for both the Axis and the Allies with the same level just enough complexity.

I can't wait for hidden units...

That is one thing that Warplan Europe needs especially at sea...

According to yesterday's Twitch announcement, the release is planned for the 2nd quarter. Well, in the worst case it will be the end of June.
As Alvaro mentioned, the AI is the biggest challenge.

The earlier China campaign would be wonderful because in spite of what most people think, WW II didn't start in September 1939.

Yeah, a China Campaign 1937-1945 would be a wonderful addition in the future! Still, what we will soon have here looks like a masterpiece...[8D]

I added a China campaign 1937-1939 at WarPlan Europe scale since a lot of players asked for it.

90% a land war but it is a good entry point campaign to it.

Any chance of a 37 - 45 grand campaign. That would be really nice :)

37-45 is very hard to do because there are too many variables that can determine the game by 1939. It takes a huge team of beta testers to play it out for a long time. I am only 1 man.
