Set-up Phase Distruptive to Experience

Post by dumasclub »

I find the rulebook and game easy enought o get into. However, the set-up phase is terribly distracting to the experience of the game to the point that it would deter even the most hardcore gamer. I would ask that the designer submit for players a download of pre-setups for each nation, so we could actually play the game instead of puzzling what piece doesn't have any troops, what pieces cannot be placed, etc ... Otherwise the game is simply not worth the time.

There is a default setup that you can load for each nation (just in case you dont know).

EDIT:

I did say
" But maybe we can ask some veteran players to upload some of their saved setups in order to give us newbs a chance (if they dont mind giving some of their secrets away [;)])"

Some one beat me to it

but hopefully, people post more

Actually the game does come with an already finished setup for each nation and a button on the interface to load those setups.

I have a big post-in on the cover of the manual:"DON'T FORGET TO SAVE SET-UP". It only took 4 starts to remember that.

One thing im bit puzzled by, the GB default setup seems to protect GB, better than the AI-setup. (atleast Gb is better garrisoned).

Regarding Set-ups.

Is there a way to customize ths AI set-ups? The default ones (especially FR/BR) are very sub par - they basically are set up to get shafted.

Is there an actual AI set-up script that reacts to your placements or are they just standard set-ups for every power. It appears to me that every AI power sets up identically in every game. The problem with this is human players will use it to set so many abusive situations. If there is no AI in the set-up I'd really like to tweak the BR and FR AI set up (especially navies and port defences). Right now if I play BR or FR its just too easy to annihilate the French fleet or to invade England.

What I do is set up the game for each nation only once (per difficulty level, until I got bored with the lower ones). Then, I can start over again.

One caution about that, though: If there are any bugs in the game that manifest themselves in the saved game, one might be saving a bug. Even a patch might not correct it. Alternately, a patch might make a saved setup no longer function.
At LAST! The greatest campaign board game of all time is finally available for the PC. Can my old heart stand the strain?

Hey guys:

We will look at adding other AI setups. If you have one that you think the AI should use then show it to me along with what your goal is.

Thank you
