how exactly does fog of war work?

hi folks,

i am coming from a boardgame background and am not used to the fog of war option.
how does it exactly work?
when do i see enemy units?

Some of it can be found in a (very) old thread here. Think it was added as feature in 1.01 (?)
 
First of all you will always be able to se all units on the board. It has to do with when the excact corps counter and it's contents is revealed in the gamelog. So when using the 'Fog of War'-option only participants in battles get all info. In gamelog is only reported number of corps, chits and the winner. Not strength points, morale or losses. Then I also think the option influences reports from sieges and trivial combats.
But I never really got hold of the exact details...
