AAR: Defense of the USSR part 6

Post by Vic »

Some of my forces start to hold their ground against enemy attacks.
Though under combined german land, artillery and air attack almost all still crumbled.

A lot of infantry arrived at Stavka this round. Due to a small logistical error however i could transfer none of them to the Leningrad front. I hope Leningrad holds for one more turn so i can reinforce the line there. Moscow is definitly being swamped now with infantry and bazookas green recruits.

I did some succesfull counter attacks around Leningrad, while my counter attacks around Moscow failed.

Around Sevastopol i managed to do a succesfull counter attack. Also i did an ambhipious landing and cut the german land supply line again.

Overall the situation looks grim though...

BTW where are the Finnish units for the Germans?

You can see them one hex northwest of Leningrad.
I really hope Victor can keep the germans away from Leningrad so they can´t attack
from different directions. In front of Moscow the germans have hopefully to pay for each
step to Moscow now.
But overall i´m still VERY pessimistic for the russian defenders. Germans are too deep in
Russia already. And especially in the south it could give some problems since the russians
have to concentrate their forces and can´t cover the whole front.

@Vic
I hope you´ll survive 1941. Just want to see that great AAR continued and some interesting
fights and strategies in 1942. Lend Lease and the winter will help you. Plus the siberians !
Good luck ! (even i should be with the germans....)

Hey Ola Berli!...you know the Arditi!!  Great![:)]
Lets hope the Russians hold on.  The Germans are tough so far; lets see the tactical finesse of the designer.[;)]  I'm teasing you Victor!  I'm anxious to see what 1942 brings.
The AAR is very enjoyable gentlemen.  I check in often.

German Turn 7, October 20th.

Starting to get cold. My rear is seeing some partisan attacks. My cities in Russia are garrisoned so they are mostly a nuisance.

Army Group North and the Finns are closing in on Leningrad. I am able to cut a vital cross roads junction SE of Leningrad and will prevent reinforcements from the interior to come into the city.

A major battle is gearing up in front of Moscow. The Western approaches are thick with woods so I am forced to envelop. I am able to seize Kalinin to the NW and further isolate the North part of the country.

In the South, the Soviets are not able to maintain a front. I seize Kharkov and find the road to Stalingrad clear. Kharkov is due South of Moscow. I split AG S into group's A and B. Group A will wheel north and secure the extended flank. The more powerful group B will lunge towards Stalingrad.

In the Crimea, the assault on Sevestopol continues. I seize and destroy the Eastern fortification. I have to detact a corp to the West to re-open supplies. I also establish a second supply line on the road north west of Rostov. I hope to finish Sevastopol next turn. More importantly, I am able to establish a beach head across the Kerch strait. Roughly 40% of the Soviet production is in the Caucausas (Oil) and in Stalingrad. The Caucausas look weekly defended.

Yeah, it's not looking too good...when does the weather kick in? Shouldn't the Germans be slowing down a bit now? And yes...where are the Siberians?

Siberian reinforcements should arrive next turn in Moscow.  Winter starts in December.  Big combat disadvantage for the Germans.

This makes me want to play some CMBB now. lol Hey can you guys start white circling the major cites like Moscow, Stalingrad or any named cities in your aar's. I can't tell what's Karkov and what's not. Be nice for those of us who aren't geography majors. ;)

Don´t be too pessimistic Tom [:D]
Vic needs a army in good shape (at least some powerful units like the siberians)
to use the winter advantage for his russians. My hope is that he can use the bad weather
to fill up his units again [;)]
But i see several bigger problems for the russians already

1. You cutted off Leningrad from supply lines, so it get´s supply and troops only from Leningrad now.
2. Germans already threaten Murmansk. You can reach that hex soon. Without Murmansk......
3. The south is undefended, but imho Vic is doing the right to concentrate his forces in Moscow and Leningrad.

In my eyes he´ll lose the Caucasus and Leningrad soon and in early 1942 the germans will concentrate all forces on Moscow
to finish the russians. Very good job the germans did so far. But no wonder Tom is well trained here [:D]
