About the GTC TAI...

Post by mickxe5 »

...it's clearly been tweaked for the better IMO. Deployment is more often in better cover and tactical location, tanks path correctly on roads and support from behind the front line instead of beyond it, AI infantry advances along covered approaches, lays in wait near VLs to counter attack and retake them, flanking maneuvers arent uncommon, etc. Curious to know any details about these changes in (PITF)/GTC.

There weren't major changes to the AI between PitF and Gateway to Caen.

There were some changes and fixes to the AI behavior for PitF that carry over, however. One that may be influencing a lot of what you're seeing is a weighting for VLs and how important and AI thinks a given VL is. This was done to tie in the Strategic Map level AI with the tactical AI. So for instance if the Strategic AI wants to move off a map in a given direction, the tactical AI will more heavily 'value' the exit VL that goes that way. So the tactical AI will tend to move around the edge of the map more if there is a VL there it wants to use to move off the map, or sometimes it will want to attack all the way across the map to try and take a VL on the opposite edge. On defense it will tend to value the VLs that allow for retreat. Earlier versions of the tactical AI were mostly concerned about taking the closest VLs to where they were.

That's why I put PIT in parens...I didnt give it much time beyond my abbreviated playtesting. So my curiosity is more about the AI changes made for PITF.

In PitF latest version, the German AI cannot even move to attack my troops in the vanilla scenarios. I think I need to find the "small map" mod again to solve this problem. The older games were much better.

Of course, the game map looks beautiful [8|]

The changes sound good and would benefit all the previous CC releases ....
