Query re: LOS

Post by Javolenus »

Hi There,

Something puzzled me and I wanted to ask for clarification. Here's what happened:

I had an MG team moving along a road. A few team members had reached the waypoint and were (presumably) waiting for the rest of the team to catch up (they were strung out along the road). Then, suddenly, enemy infantry showed up a few yards away from the lead members of the team (at the move order waypoint). I expected something to happen but nothing did: my MG team couldn't see the enemy and, apparently, vice versa. In other words, despite being almost on top of each other, the MG team and the OPFOR inf. team just carried on with what they were doing. I gave my MG team a target/fire command but nothing happened. Then, from way over on the flank, another of my teams spotted the OPFOR team and poured in fire. The OPFOR team was now virtually on top of my MG team, which, in reality, would probably have got slotted by the incoming friendly fire. I guess my basic question is: why didn't two opposing teams, both on the same road, and within yards/feet of each other, open fire?

Many thanks in advance for help.

Have you looked at the coding of the map? Was there a difference in elevation between the two units? Had the map been coded with a (ghost) structure present?

Many thanks for this. Mmm, I didn't consider these points. If and when this happens again, I'll check out your suggestions. Thanks again.

Unfortunately a lot of Close Combat maps contain ghost structures and even tendrils of the Bermuda Triangle in them!
