VR designs has been reinforced with designer Cameron Harris and the result is a revolutionary new operational war game 'Barbarossa' that plays like none other. It blends an advanced counter pushing engine with deep narrative, people management and in-depth semi-randomized decision systems.

First I heard of Ardennes Offensive. Is this going to be like Decisive Campaigns: Barbarossa?

No roleplay elements. Too bad, that's what brought most of us here to begin with. Its your average counter pusher without it IMO.

Think it might be a bit early to call a game in development, that we've yet to see even a single screenshot from, or have more than a scant description of, an average counter pushing game. I say give Vic a chance, he'll try to make it unique one way or another :)

The early screenshots look pretty nice DC: Ardennes Offensive though it appears to be a late alpha, so nothing is locked in atm.

I base my assumptions of average counter pusher on the last 2 games prior to DC barb. And actually barb also, if it didn't have the rpg elements. For me they were nothing special. Maybe it was your cup of tea.

What excited me was the decision system we saw in barb. I had never played a wargame like it. And it looks like it will be a good while before I get to play another.

I know, there is no roleplay elements but there are many new interesting features:

- 1km hex with ground elevations and direct line of sight fire!
- Enemy units can fires during your move !
- no fixed frontlines, you can infiltrate units behind enemy lines !
- you can organize ambush !
- You can detach team or kampfgruppe from any units !
- you can leave roadblock units during retreat !
- you can load and unload foot units with truck columns from your HQ !
- Germans can use captured vehicles !
and so on...............

I liked the 'RPG' elements too, but I can understand that they are not part of a game about the battle of the Bulge. Still I will probably get the game for my interest in that battle.

I never understood why airpower was made abstract. Seemed to me like a missing element of the fun but that is just me.
