Monty's Front: Describe YOUR Game Experience
Monty's Front: Describe YOUR Game Experience
The design document for the Stalingrad game was pretty much locked-up in May. So any good ideas that have emerged or will emerge are tagged for possible inclusion in the next game--Monty's Front. This game will deal exclusively with the combat operations by 21st Army Group between August-November 1944. The major operations covered in this game center around Objective Antwerp...i.e. Market-Garden and the Battle for the Scheldt.
Describe your version of this game.

hmmmm...this will be the next game after Stalingrad boys...so... Time to clickity-click your druthers. Once I put it in the box (design document)--the box is sealed. Last minute is not game design. I want to hear your views on Monty's Front. Thanks!
RE: Monty's Front: Describe YOUR Game Experience
Hard to comment until Stalingrad is out.
RE: Monty's Front: Describe YOUR Game Experience
Assume success in any plan. If you don't, you won't know what to do if by chance--you get there. You'll be flyin' by the seat of your pants.ORIGINAL: wodin

So describe your game experience if you know anything about the subject matter. Market-Garden plus Canadians plus Antwerp = Monty's Front. What are your ideas? Thanks!
RE: Monty's Front: Describe YOUR Game Experience
I would like to expand the after action review capability when we get to Monty's Front. The purpose of these AAR products is to help the players understand what is happening during gameplay--and what happened when gameplay is done. Hopefully, access to this info will enhance game play.
Currently we show victory points awarded, fuel and ammo on-hand/lost to enemy interdiction over time. Some folks don't care about this info. We'd like to hear from those who do. What other statistics would you like to see during and/or following game play?

I would like to see the friendly units destroyed on their own display window throughout the game. Sometimes in bigger scenarios it is not always possible for an old fart like me to remember the particulars of what unit(s) of mine were just destroyed etc.[:(]

Yes, that's a good idea. Might revamp the entire misc panel (with interdiction/counter-air/reinformcements etc) and add that sort of data too, as well as showing losses as explicit number of men/vehicles etc.I would like to see the friendly units destroyed on their own display window throughout the game. Please post your AAR expansion ideas over here. I should have created its own space before I asked the question:

Meanwhile...tell me about your desired 21st Army Group experience here.
RE: Monty's Front: Describe YOUR Game Experience
Weigh-in. Monty's Front 1944 is where your best game suggestion has a chance to make it into the BK Game engine after-next. What do you want to see?
RE: Monty's Front: Describe YOUR Game Experience
I've started research on the topic of 21st Army group circa 1944-45. If you are tucked-in to this topic, please share your "best sources" on the topic. Orders of Battle, goals/objectives, unit strengths--what say you? Thanks!
RE: Monty's Front: Describe YOUR Game Experience
Abit late, but more detailed AAR would be excellent, The more info the better, it's great for immersion and for published AARs.
RE: Monty's Front: Describe YOUR Game Experience
Would it be of interest to know when and how many losses occurred by unit type (i.e. Armor, AT, Artillery, Infantry, etc.)?
What other AAR statistics would you like to see?

Sounds great.
I'd like to be able to check each units history and see who and when it engaged and it's losses and kills.
Decisive Campaigns Barbarossa and Flashpoint Campaigns have very good AAR's esp DCB.
Both those games gave awards to units for good combat, DCB also gave reprimands for bad performance. All of it chrome. I lap it up. Having each units history gives them a character all of their own.
I don't think you can do to much, the more the merrier.
RE: Monty's Front: Describe YOUR Game Experience
I like this idea; especially if it is coupled with sound analysis of the data that is useful to the player...helps guide how he plays/improves his game.ORIGINAL: wodin

RE: Monty's Front: Describe YOUR Game Experience
Sounds interesting. As long as you do british 50th infantry division justice i will be happy. What OOB level/size will it cover?
RE: Monty's Front: Describe YOUR Game Experience
Unit sizes will be similar to Stalingrad--divisions represented by brigades/regiments that can breakdown/build-up battalions; and separate battalions (recce, AT, combat engineers) that can breakdown/build-up companies.

TIK: Gavin wasn't to blame? 'New' evidence on Operation Market Garden's failure?

RE: Monty's Front: Describe YOUR Game Experience
As a Canadian it would be nice to see some games about their battles such as the Scheldt. Too late now but Ortona would have provided the same kind of situation and urban combat as Stalingrad but on a smaller scale.
If part of the proposed game covers Operation Market Garden then the 101st and 82nd Airborne would I assume be part of the order of battle.
In regards to future subjects there are a lot fewer games on the island and land battles in the Pacific. Considering the scale of Desert War I think a game on Guadalcanal or New Guinea and the battle for Port Moresby to name two would fit in nicely.
