Look at this and tell me what you think.

I'm using an editor (Of ships of course) from another game, and I thought: Why not to put these in DW?

So here it goes, tell me if you think that i should continue doing these ships.

Also I have some problems in making the background transparent, any help would be greatly apreciated.

There are also some other sprites that i can use that makes the ships look more real i'll post a ship with these, as soon as I make one.

Here it is the other sprites that i've said. Particularly I like these more than the other ones.

The ships are in the shipyard right now, come back later [:)]

Have fun!

What image editor are you using, Xkill?

Xkill are you using photoshop to make these ships?  Or another similar program?

If in photoshop open your ships press crtl-A, crtl-c, crtl-n (to open new doc the same size as your image, at the bottom of the new doc options make sure you choose background transparent), when new doc is open press crtl-v to paste in your image over the transparent background, it should be on a new layer.  Then click the magic wand tool (its in the same tool slot as quick select tool, so if quick select tool is there click and hold and choose magic wand), make sure the anti-alis and sample all layers are not ticked, you can have contiguous ticked if you like or we might actually delete some of the black on the blue sphere by accident, set tolerance to 0 and select the black on your image, press delete, then go to layer--> merge visible and tada, you got your ship on a transparent background (assuming all that black is actually the same shade of black, but it looks like it is).

Also, ships need to have their fronts facing up, so go to Image-->Image Rotation-->90 CW

Well, I don't use Photoshop, actually I use GIMP (Because of its friendly interface) but it aren't giving me any good results, the Alpha-Channel thing doen'st makes sense for me either.

I know that I must make the rotation i would do it but i've forgot, also i don't use any image editing programs to make these, but instead a Ship Editor but, from another game.

Besides that what do you think about it?

Igard I use GIMP (Because of its friendly interface, well at least for me) but it aren't giving me good results.

Ok, Xkill, GIMP is a good program.

- Open GIMP and select File > New
- Set your image size (250x250 is a good size for low res, 500x500 for higher res ship images)
- Below the size boxes, there is a + option for advanced settings
- In the advanced settings there is an option for 'Fill With' set to 'background colour' change this to 'transparency'. Click ok.
- Now you should have a box filled with the checkered transparency colour (grey and white)
- Drag your image into this box and change the layer accordingly (centre it and scale it to your satisfaction).
- Anchor the layer and delete the black colour from the background of your ship image.

That should do it. Good luck.

or, xkill
1. open existing file in GIMP
2. Goto the layer menu, -> transparency -> add alpha channel.
3. select the background colour by any method you choose. (selection by colour or magic wand)
4. clear/ delete/ erase
5. Save as .png
done.

I think that i'm done with the transparency, but, i'm limited to 250/500 pixels for the image to show properly?

Also I have good news, i've done the military ships (escort, frigate, destroyer, cruiser, capitalship) but I still have much work to do. I think that the shipset may be done in the next week.

And, the two ships in the announcement will be deleted, i've made better ships.

You can make the images however many pixels you like, I was just suggesting these as base values. Sorry for not making this clear. I simply like to have a bit of consistency with my shipsets, though this is not essential.

Hey, i'm done with the military-only ships i've got some pics in-game to everybody see the ships in action.

Image

From left to right, there are, the:

Escort- Smaller one.
Frigate- The smaller part is the back and the larger one, the front.
Destroyer- Not much to talk about it, its only a destroyer.
Cruiser- Ahhh... this one is my gold ship the best one that i've made ever.
Capitalship- This one look like an alien ship but it looks cool anyways.

Here is a pic of them battling some pirates (Thank you In-game Editor!)

Image

The designs of the rest of the ships may come tomorrow, the Freighter are really looking good but the transparency aren't done yet.

Also, i've done some pulses, and got some of the game's music. Hopefully this one is going to be a Total Conversion Mod!

Thanks for the positive posts, these really taken my time. The spaceports are done, i'll put all of them in a single pic (In-game).

Maybe a short AAR wil be done when the shipset and all of the rest get done.

Hey can I delete the background instantly, instead of manually taking off all of it? "Cause this are really slowing me up.

You need to select the background colour using either the fuzzy select tool (magic wand) or the select by colour tool, then you can delete the background with the 'Del' key on your keyboard.

Be careful if you use the select by colour tool as it will also select parts of the ship that are the same colour as the background. Best to stick with the magic wand if you're unsure. It should be the 4th icon on the toolbar.

I regret to announce that... i'm broken!

I just can't delete the dang thing! I click in it, then I press DEL but, ya know what happens? Absolutely Nothing. Looks like the Mod finishment will be severely punished but at least the stations are reall cool, expecially the Medium Spaceport.

Also, must I, make the station "Look" up for it to function or can I leave it as it is now?

The station can face in any direction because the game will rotate it randomly anyway when it is placed.

Look forward to seeing what else you've got, Xkill.

Hello everybody the shipset are in its final stage, the Resupply Ship are finished, the freighters are getting the Transparency done, Mining Ships are getting designed, so, maybe in a day or two the ships may be finished!

I'm glad that someone here wants to see my ships [:)]
