first turn sardinia invasion

Post by dontra85 »

Per the scenario description the allies can attack corsica and sardinia on turn one without penalty but when i change the landing site the prep points go to 49. is it set up so that only sicily can be attacked on turn one and the others on turn 2-3

If you are playing the 43-45 campaign, then yes. The change of landing target takes you back to 49 prep points, so set your target and go next turn.

This is intended to allow the Axis player to reposition his defenses if the Allied player decides to alter the historical landings.

You are better off to not invade Sardinia/Corsica early anyways. I know there are some people who would swear by it, but honestly...the first turn invasion of Sicily should be left alone.

You can always pull a couple of those TG's back to plan a new invasion with a regiment which preps very fast.

Many Allied players have not realized just how important all of those beaches in Sicily are vital for the supply situation. Without all of the beaches, the supply situation in Sicily takes a long time to start being able to supply air bases with sufficient supplies for bombers. Fighters can operate with much fewer supplies, but bombers require a lot of freight and just a few beaches are not going to do it for them.

The historical landings allow three Amphibs to be removed on turn 2. Gemel and Siracusa are ports and don't require Amphibs in order to be supply points - Gemel is level one and will be fully repaired on turn 2 while Siracusa is level three and will require several turns to be fully functional. The other Amphib is one of the other two British Amphibs as a single Amphib can remain adjacent to both beaches and keep them as supply points.

Those three Amphibs are more than sufficient to start planning the next invasion with the 5th US Army troops and be ready to do divisional invasions by turn 8 or 9. This is the timetable for Sicily that the Axis can expect if all six Amphibs are used in the initial invasions. If fewer than six Amphibs are used in Sicily, then the Axis HAVE to be more willing to run from Sicily in order to prevent being cut off by another Allied invasion.
